Some thoughts on the economy of the game

Hi there,

The impending gold reset, which doesn't concern me in the least as my max amount of gold has never gone beyond two figures, has nevertheless caused some negative reactions among many players, who have expressed their discomfort at the prospect of being dispossessed of their hard earned currency through no fault of their own. In my opinion, the measure has some undesirable side effects but is maybe unavoidable, given the amount of illegal exploiting going on among some players who have no ethics or scruples to counteract their greed and who damage all of us and the game in general. All in all, I can't blame the devs for devising this extreme measure, as they are left with no other choice. (In fact I don't think we could blame the devs for anything, as we are playing this game thanks to their unselfish effort)

That being said, I think that the problem arises form the fact that good items derive mainly from pve mobs drops, with a really low rate to boot. Th efact that no items are BoP just make it worse. I would suggest creating an economical situation where only a very small amount of currency is needed to purchase the desired items. If the top stuff comes from rewards acquired through the completion of renown levels, the need to spend hours and hours farming in pve is eliminated and everyone will be able to wear the best gear as they level their renown. That would contribute to more equality in equipment, allowing skill to be more of a factor in the matchups, and also would eliminate the need to possess enormous amounts of gold to be competitive.

I'm sure I have overlooked some obvious points and I'm open to any criticism, in case anyone bothers to read my wall of text.

I agree with most of the stuff you mention here, especially with the part "I would suggest creating an economical situation where only a very small amount of currency is needed to purchase the desired items" . Most of the new players are probably a bit terrified or annoyed of the fact that they can't get good items, or items at all and they are naked ( I know, once the quests are reenabled it won't be a problem ). But still adding some vendors - that would be removed later - would be a nice solution yes! You would still have to farm some money though, but not much.

But to maintain the "end-game" feeling that you can still do something until next tier unlock, you can still farm your blue items or whatever rare items people are farming now ^^
And by having vendors for low-moderate value items and farming spots for high value items, everyone would be satisfied!

Obviously, due to the duping not only of gold but also of medallions, the rewards shouldn't be bought with medallions or any other RvR currency, but simply with a small amount of gold. Items should have a rank and a renown rank requirement and that's all, just like Dominion gear right now.

Make the vendors just for "Gale Lvl 9" Gear and let the people farm for Bloody, BQ, Decayed, Lady, Cloaks and Jewels. That sounds like a good solution for me.

Everybody could have a Char with Helm, Shoulders and so on, but to get the best Gear u would still have to farm.

That would make Players with Full LvL 11-12 Deci gears less OP for new Players :)

BUT they would still have better gear so everybody would be happy, The Farmers because they could still do what they do best.....suport us with gear, and the PvP-RvR Players that still had their high gear but less Op in Comparesment to new Players then atm

No Jimmy thats what i meant to get THE BEST Gear u would still have to farm but you could afford Gear with you could realy compete against full geared players in PvP-RvR

Jimmy i agree in 1 thing with u many farmers farm direct on Gale gear because of the stats on helm or so are better for dps classes. BUT to whom will you sell them after the gold whipe? nobody and i mean nobody will or can pay 50+ gold for a helm after the whipe has happened. So what?
