Greetings, and welcome!
I starter RoR like 2 months ago, so take these tips with that in mind
1) Witch Hunter - Witch Elf
I personally started the game with Witch Hunter, it was rough, very rough, but I have enjoyed every moment. The class has no proper warband build. There is 1 build that is recommended for wb gameplay, but its not really a wb build and thats why no organised wb wants a wh and most guilds wont recruit a wh. Still, I have enjoyed the gameplay and the challenges. So, make a WH/WE only, if you are prepared for a lot of solo gameplay, and remember, you are in a disadvantage against pretty much everyone who is lv40 when you are leveling. Which is a problem, as everyone who roams is lv40, so everyone who you will "catch" by themselves, is a fully geared ganker that will destroy you
2) Shadow Warrior - Squig Herder
Shadow warrior is easy to recommend. Its a blast to play alone, and it has an aoe build for warbands. So you can solo when you feel like it, and you can join organised wbs and guilds if you feel like it. Its also the ONLY class I have played so far, that doesnt feel absolutely useless when leveling. You actually get kills, you contribute by knocking people down, by silencing them, by killing them. And from what I have understood, Squids are also in a good spot. They have issues related to their pet (pets are bugged atm), but otherwise it seems like a fun class
3) Disciple of Kain (can this also be played as a DD?)
No experience about DoK, but its main purpose is a healer. While it can be played as a DD, from my understanding, thats more reserved for roaming/small groups. All warbands and guilds mainly want you as a healer
4) Shaman
No experience about Shaman, but its a healer with dots, so like a god in Tier1

But from what I have observed, its also a strong healer in T4. Seems very popular too, so should be a fine choice if you want to play a healer
What you should choose? Well, whatever you find most interesting. With a healer you will have the easiet job of finding a group for any content, but if you like ranged dps more, then make a ranged dps. Choosing between Shadow Warrior or Squig Herder is mainly a decision between Order vs Destruction, they are not 100% identical classes, but they are each others "mirrors". I personally wouldnt recommend WH/WE, but if you find those the most interesting, then make one! You are gonna be making lots of alt characters anyway, so dont think your first character as the only thing you will be playing for the next year
Other tips
1) Install "Enemy UI" addon. It improves the original WB interface and gives you few helpful tools, like marking. In warbands, you can then "mark" the leader of the wb, which makes it 100x easier to follow the leader in combat
2) Do enough pve, so that you learn the basics, but start doing rvr as soon as possible
3) Theres boosting in rvr, so under lv16 characters will be boosted to lv15 in T1. In T2-4 characters with lv16 or higher will be boosted to max level. This evens out the playing field by quite a lot in rvr
4) Use /ad in game if you have any questions. Also, at level5 you will be automatically placed in your factions community guild

6) Join the official discord, its much much more active than these forums
7) Join a proper guild, makes the game easier and much more enjoyable
