


On May 18th, 2005 Mythic Entertainment secured the worldwide rights to create an MMORPG based on Games Workshop’s Warhammer Fantasy world. After more than three long years, hundreds of developers had worked tirelessly to create Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, which was released on September 18th, 2008.
After the 5th anniversary of Warhammer Online in September 2013, EA/Mythic announced they would be closing the servers and ending the live service on December 18th, 2013.
Return of Reckoning is the fan-made continuation of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.
A small group of players started recording as much information from the last few weeks of the official servers being online with the hope that one day they would be able to play again.
Shortly after the servers shut down work began on rewriting the server code with the goal of bringing Warhammer Online back online. Every monster in the world had to be replaced, every quest had to be restored and gaps in archives filled in. Every public quest, dungeon boss, game mechanic had to be coded and scripted again.
Return of Reckoning officially opened its website and account creation to the public on June 11th, 2014.
Since then, we have spent more time developing this game than the original game was in service. Re-implementing content to bring it back to the live state, making balance changes to classes, and re-creating old live events.
We have also created new custom content from the fragments recovered while deconstructing client files, as well as original content built entirely from scratch.
