I am doing my first quests and I am instructed to go to my trainer to learn skills, I get excited, however, I already have auto learned my skills somehow...?
Is this some custom change to make things easier? What does it really serve? I was excited to play this game but it seems it is modified to be sped up?
Noob questions - auto learn skills..?

Re: Noob questions - auto learn skills..?
Yes you auto learn skills, on live you used to have to purchase your class ranked skills, on ror you do not.
When you start being able to spec into your skill trees also, thier is no coin cost to respec or to spec at all. Those changes were done pretty early in RoR life span.
Leceling also has been sped up as well, prob due to when you hit lvl 16, you will be playing with the big boys. There is a bolster, and i would suggest to make sure you keep your gear as close to your level as possible ( and talis in gear) to make most of the bolster. As you will be playing with everyone on the server in rvr, including BiS players ( rr80+)
Welcome to RoR, my suggestion is to not be a solo player as RoR favors heavy in small man groups ( 2-6 man) and warband + ( aka blob v blob ir zerg v zerg)
Just like any mmo, it has its pros and cons, most guilds if or when you join are usually pretty helpful in assisting new players learn the ropes of RoR
