Bit off topic, but OP's post really hightlights the problem with the name hoarding: People claim names and have them sit idle on some low level char, because they MIGHT at some point in the future want to play the char with that exact name (then they leave RoR and may not even come back).

It's a good thing this mechanic exists, even though we see the occasional complaining / outrage in the forum.

Honestly this should be a common thing across all MMOs

If someone leaves, yeah. But you can be an active player and just stop playing a character for some time. 6 months is nothing in a game like this since we can create a bunch of characters. I like other classes better so, yes, he was sitting there waiting the day I would have time to level. Not anyone can play hours per day on a daily basis. And well, you don't see this 'mechanic' across all MMOs for a reason.

Inactive Names
There is an automated name reeing system has been implemented that will release the name of any character that has not logged in for 6 months plus 5 days per renown rank.

If the name you're seeking isn't released yet, or is held by an inactive player, be sure to check back every few days or months!

You can also use the Killboard to see when a character last killed or died to an enemy player, which can tell you if that character is clearly active or not.

If someone stole a name and reach rr12 (this is less than 30min job), they will get additional 60 days to hold the name. It sounds a bit harsh.

im actually glad you posted this, i didnt know about the name thing. i had to change my main's name to something similar to what i usually use, i looked at killboard to check who has my name its some never played once bg, guess ill get to steal it back eventually lol
