New tank to the game looking for help
My story is irrelevant to the case as to what brings me here, but I am here nonetheless. I am new to the game, brand new, but not new to MMORPGs. I have some experience, and I know general terms. I just don't know about this game's term. So I would like to ask some questions, specifically regarding two of the tank classes. I have a level 10 chosen, and I have a level 1 night guard. Basically the Dark Elves tank class. I would like to just know a few things. First of all, what stats should I look out for, and what exactly do those stats do that I need to look out for? What is every sort of play style they can do as a tank? And what is a generally good rotation for me to have from level 1 to 10? What abilities to use, how to use them, when to use them? I come from World of Warcraft and Guild Wars 2 and Wildstar. I am not used to sort of the tanking that is in this game, as far as I am seen. There's mostly just single target tanking, so I have to pick the battles carefully. Carefully. And there was many times I almost overran some of the people I grouped around with when playing in the lower levels. I would like to focus on the chosen, but some tips for the night guard wouldn't be bad. Or the night elf, dark elf tank class. Like I said, I have a level 10 chosen and I'm planning on going to do the first dungeon. I've watched a guide on how generally the dungeon works and what I need to focus on. But like I said, I would like to have a rotation, what I should spend my skills in, and so on and so forth. I do like the concept of the sword and board, and one of the paths, I think, discord of the chosen was to say that basically you just stand there and let them hit you until their resources is deployed, and then you slap them back.

Okay, since you used phrase "tank" I guess you want to be a team player rather than lol dps.
As a "tank" in RoR you have few jobs to do:
- Guard - your guard allow to split damage between you and guarded person (usualy dps you're assisting), so it's easier to keep you both alive. However, since guard damage (thats redirected to you) can be parried and/or blocked, you got magic ability to simply negate incoming damage. You can swap guard on the fly between your party members ignoring GCD, I'd recommend enemy addon and it's click cast function to do it fast and easy.
- Reduce enemy outgoing damage - on higher levels you can reduce enemy damage in multiple ways e.g. Challenge, Distracting Bellows or Immaculate Defenses. It's another way to keep your party or warband alive.
- You CC enemies - you slow them down, root them, knock them down, stagger or send them flying. Either to defend allies or secure kills and to show your superiority to your enemies, they are pawns and you show them their place.
- You buff allies and debuff enmies - Black Guard is specialist here. Especially in smallscale.
- You interrupt harmful stuff - spells and offensive channels with your taunt.
- Block - if you're wielding a shield - blocks incoming damage from melee, ranged and spells. If you block it, you receive 0 damage. You can block Guard damage as mentioned above.
- Parry - your weapon doesn't matter - blocks incoming damage from melee, if they come from front. If you parry it, you receive 0 damage. You can parry Guard damage as mentioned above.
- Toughness - reduces incoming damage by negating attacker offensive main stat (Str/Ballistics/Intelligence).
- Wounds - you get 10 health for each 1 Wound. Makes you harder to kill and easier to keep alive.

I'd suggest to read this guide. Should be helpful for beginner.qwas123 wrote: Sat Jan 03, 2026 9:34 pm can you tell me of a rotation I should keep in mind and a build I can perhaps use from 1-40? chosen ofcoures and the outer dark elf tank it seems that the chosen is like the Paledin form, wow if you can and thanks for some tips
Re: New tank to the game looking for help
I see this is for pvp how good is it for pve?
Re: New tank to the game looking for help
The vast majority of the game is pvp as leveling your pvp rank is required to wear many of the games sets of armor. Unlike WoW the game expects you to level doing pvp and is balanced around you doing so. When you do some PvE as a tank you are mostly focusing on using taunt and challange to keep aggro.
