[WH] Regen/Defensive Witch Hunter

Anyone been able to get a defensive/regen witch hunter to work? I've tried several times, but almost instantly go back to my main build after dying over and over. Gersy (thank you very much for your guide by the way, that was a ton of work and great information!) doesn't even mention it, as it wouldn't be a meta build at all, granted I'm not looking for meta, just something to change things up a bit.

It seems that to get it to work would be a much tighter margin for error on gear selection/spec vs speccing a regen WE (which I also have), which is brain dead easy. I have tried multiple Absolution or Trial by Pain/Seeker's Triumph spam builds for consistent bullet procs, but to no avail. No build, even with +2, allows all utility abilities (Repel Blasphemy, a KD, Sanctified Bullets, Shroud of Magnus, Sanctified Oil, Punish the False) which means there is always a glaring weakness.

Builds I have tried:
RoR.builders - Witch Hunter Modified DG build. Can cycle Trial by Pain and Seeker's Blade to continually have guaranteed combo points and consisted bullet procs/healing. Or no Seeker's Triumph and just Abso-spam with another tactic slot to play with. No heal debuff :(
RoR.builders - Witch Hunter All the tools you want, but no KD. Same deal with Trial by Pain or Abso-spam. Fervor more effective as additional magic damage here.
RoR.builders - Witch Hunter Swap out Repel Blasphemy for Pistol Whip. Banks more on regen and passive defenses with KD. Needs +2 though.
RoR.builders - Witch Hunter No Repel Blasphemy or a KD, but gain Exit Wounds debuff.

Gear is your typical Fleshrender/Grimshimmer defensive rr points type loadout.

Just curious if anyone has had any success, mild or otherwise, with a build as I'm coming up short and would like another way to enjoy the WH. Any WH names who I should check out? Thanks!

....it could also all be for nought :P

You should check out this WH,or any class on his channel/one of the best Solo roamers to exist in RoR. The beauty of WH is that you can do this without regen gear. Never invest regen in Renown training. https://builder.returnofreckoning.com/r ... ;4;3;0;0;0
RoR.builders - Witch Hunter This is what i would do with +2 but this is THE spec imo RoR.builders - Witch Hunter If you want, you can take Crit dmg tactic and spec crit in renown. Flowing Accusations is must have with armour penetration tactic. Full beastlord is GREAT for WH if you are low lvl because 6pc bonus is super good.

I play def/regen WH sometimes. It's kind of good. Is it as good as def WE? Hard to say. No access to witchbrew, less bubbles, no AP regen from parry tactic, no -25% crit tactic...

But at the same time, WH has amazing on-demand RB panic button dragon gun provides some nice utility, morale pump and heals for each target hit, self-healing from ini-stealing proc is better than healing from healing-debuff proc.

I'd say def WH is a very niche, but viable spec.

Good ol' Mdpv, wonder how he's doing? To make this work, would still have to build offensively or at least stack weapon skill, as Blessed Blade is multiplicative on your current armor penetration, yeah? At which point, the build is sacrificing defensive stats, and it's less a defensive build and more a slightly-less-dps-than-normal-slightly-more-suvivable...build. This was why I often went with Seeker's Triumph in my test builds, as the armor pen was built into the tactic and was worded such that I didn't need to stack weapon skill, and Trial by Pain spam was more for the two bullet procs per channel than the physical damage. I'll still try out your suggested build and see how I like it, hopefully my napkin math is wrong!

Played it at something over cr39 with dominator or above gear? Mind sharing loadout if you have?
