Gaming Headsets: USB vs. audio cable ?

Well, it's time for a new gaming headset. My USB one has lasted 4 years, but the layer of thin rubber over the ear-muffs is worn and the microphone arm keeps popping off.

Started googling for "best inexpensive" ones and the first list I see has only ones that use an audio cable.

Is there something "bad" about using USB vs. an audio cable?

(Yeah, I know, somebody's gonna say "go wireless!" I'd rather pay $40 or less for a solution, just like I did 4 years ago.)
