Kinvesu wrote: Mon Oct 13, 2025 4:48 am Hi. I have played probably more than 75% of all mmorpgs ever to exist. I have only pvped twice, when I first started WoW in 2005. I hate pvp, I just suck at fighting real humans, but being 42, I decided I would like to try out new ways of playing. I always thought the warhammer world was awesome.

So my question is, what class would you say would be good for a new player and someone who has never really pvped and is probably terrible at it and will probably get hate at first? I do prefer melee, doesn't matter if tank or dps. I will play any other role though if you think it is better.

I am in california, US if that also helps. Thank you for all the help!

(Yes I joined here in march 2023, but I never actually played. Scared off by the pvp, but wanna give it a go :/)
Once you start playing PvP on this server, you'll be even more afraid of it due to the toxicity of most of the community. )) Try playing the class that you find most interesting. You can create multiple characters at once to try out different classes.
That first part doesn't sound good lol

Easy mode list:
Arch mage/shaman (ranged - dps spec)
Marauder/white lion (mdps)
Knight/chosen (tank)
Witch hunter/witch elf (rogue)
Thank you! I will start with this list, since its what others have also said. I appreciate it!

I appreciate everyone else's help as well!

If you want to pve mostly, I suggest you Warrior Priest or Disciple of Khaine. They are melee and healers and the best for pve alone. Also they are great on pvp, being healer or dps.

I second this.

Knight and Chosen may have an easy mechanic, but tanks are quite difficult to play in PvP as you need to keep track of a lot of different things at once.

WP (Warrior Priest) and DoK (Disciple of Khaine) are both tanky healers with great all-around toolkits and are both simple to play. If you're new to the frantic nature of PvP, playing a healer will allow you to spend more time observing what's going on around you while doing your thing. You are also always doing something that you feel is beneficial to the group when playing as a healer, whereas playing a tank is a lot more dependent on the DPS you're supporting. If the DPS sucks, everything you do goes to waste.

Both WP and DoK both have really strong DPS specs that are very viable in PvE, scenario, and solo-roaming, giving you a lot more flexibility in playstyle and build. Tanks can also spec in damage, but not to the same extent as DPS healers, as their prime role will always be to tank, whereas DPS healers give up the healing role and go all in on damage.

Personally, I'd recommend tank for first class.

You have the highest survivability, so you'll be alive longer to learn the ebb and flow of the game. This is especially true as most experienced players will basically ignore tanks and kill them last.

They are relatively simple to play. By that, I mean that if you spec defensively, shove guard on a friendly melee dps and then stick within 30ft of that mdps, you'll be doing most of your job. Everything else is sugar on top - tanks tend to have some decent utility which you can use to help your team out.

They are all melee tanks, which you said you have a preference for playing melee.

They all have viable 2hander DPS specs. By that, I mean that you can spec for 2h and still have a good time in PvE and PvP - you wont be putting out actual dps numbers. This really helps if you wanna roam solo or grind out some PQs or crafting materials.

Black Orks are, of course, the coolest tank! Greenskins are just a hell of a lot of fun, and imo BOs have the best endgame armour sets in terms of aesthetics. Chosen / KoBS have easier gameplay and their auras are always wanted in groups. IB/BG probably have the higher skill ceiling, there is a lot of complexity compared to other classes, but can be rewarding if you get it right.

If you play a DPS or Healer, you're gonna get targeted a lot more often. AM / Shaman has a reputation for being overpowered, especially in DPS spec, but their still quite squishy and get targetted all the time. They're just good at kiting. This game can get very ranged heavy, and if you play solo a lot then playing a class with range is probably a good idea.

I think it's just that, I am just not good at predicting real people. I can learn to fight npcs right. I can learn their moves and when they do them and how to counter, pretty set in stone for the most part. I find a real person is just so much harder. My hands get sweaty, I get too nervous that I am gonna screw up, then I do screw up and just die over and over and then it's not really fun.
Well you're going to die in pvp games, and when you're new you're going to die more often it's just how it is.

You can play a tank and "die less" but you'll also get fewer kills/deathblows (if that matters to you).
You can play a dps and die a lot but at least have the ability to get kills/killing blows.
You can play a healer and kill nothing but technically be impossible to kill 1v1 once mastered.

New pvpers generally pushed towards tanks since you just guard a dps (chance they know how to play) and follow them around. You're actually helping your side win doing that, and it's relatively low effort to play a "guard bot". You can get into using utility skills later on.

Or play a healer, also generally useful but also you'll be targeted more by the other side. If you learn to keep your distance from people you wont die that often. You can detaunt the single dps or tank that gets to you. If you like to run into the melee unaware of your surroundings healer probably isn't for you.

You'll be better at playing a dps class if you try tank or healer first, even if you play them only into the 20s.

There are 1v1 builds considered broken/unkillable for most classes. You won't have access to these as a brand new player. You'll run into them in the lakes at times. No need to get sweaty, it's just a broken matchup. If you die 1v3 or something there's also nothing to be upset about.

Most of the players in this game don't act much different than NPCs to be honest. They use the same builds, the same tactics, the same abilities. You rarely run into someone doing something unique.
