I have been thinking lately about PvE.
So much work was done to rework the T1-3 experience only to never be seen by most folks. It is the spirit of the game to do PvP, and it should always be priority number one, but it also limits the game to a few zones. Some people have played this game for more than 10 years and have only seen a fraction of the maps. Also, a lot of new players begin this game with the mindset of other MMOs, where you usually quest a lot and slowly touch the PvP as you progress and get more comfortable with your class, only to realize later that you gutted your progress for renown. Some time ago, I myself wanted to play a new character and do the PvE route, not to dodge PvP but to see all the cool places and stuff. But after a while I got a bitter taste with it because I know that this character would be useless after I'm done with questing.
So maybe it is a hot take, but how would it be if quests gave you renown with a cap on, let's say, renown rank 30? Or even 40.
Would it divide the player base too much? Positive effects could be a less frustrating experience if the odds of RvR are too big or if you get farmed in scenarios. Instead of closing the game, a bit of questing would be an option. Also, it could elevate this game even more to a well-rounded MMO experience. I know PvE is not where RoR shines, but it has an old-school charm to it that a lot of people like, and it would merge the work of the PvE team and the PvP team together. Of course there would be some fine-tuning needed, like no repeatable quests that give renown and stuff.
I would also like to add that this is not an attempt to make it easier for new and old players, but rather an appreciation for all the work that has been put into the game and an idea to bring everything together.
What do you folks think?
Acceptable or absolute blasphemy?

Sounds interesting. How it would affect the playerbase, that’s a big question mark. But it’s a cool idea, imo.
Re: An option to experience PvE while leveling
I was doing some pve quests for gold and o.m.g the game is stunning. There are some vistas that are classic high fantasy and wouldn't look out of place in a game done today. There are areas that are wonderfully atmospheric and thematic just riding through them.
It just makes you shake your head at what the original developers created world-wise... and it's utterly wasted in RoR.

Re: An option to experience PvE while leveling
I like this idea. Adding a small amount of renown to non-repeatable quests (so they can't be farmed) would give a great alternative levelling method beyond PvP.
One of the big things the game has always lacked is a way to log in and have a relaxed gaming session to progress a character. It's sweaty PvP or PvE without renown. Questing is one of the big draws to playing an MMO, but the game has always punished players for doing it by making them unable to level their primary leveling rank.
Of course, people will say players should have to PvP for renown. To that I say, why? This isn't AoR, this game has gone its own way on many things. Why not fix one of the glaring weaknesses of the game from live and give players more choice of content to play and level their characters? The more options players have to have fun, the better.

Re: An option to experience PvE while leveling
As someone that previously suggested the Weekly Dungeon Events should give PvP Crests (like 150 total per week), I think this is a good idea, and should be up to RR40.
It should be enough that if you go pure PvE you'll reach RR30.
Then when reaching CR40 your RR would be:
Pure PvE = RR30
Pure SC = RR45
Pure RvR = RR60
This would mean pure PvE would give 1/3 and 1/8 renown of SC and RvR respectively.
And could simply be implemented as "2.6% RP given based on PvE XP gain." (I.e. 2.6 RP for every 100 XP).
Based on this calculation:
0.3M (RP for RR30) / 12M (XP for CR40) * 100 = 2.6%
As long as PvE is the worst progression, I don't have an issue. If it means the time spend in PvE feels less wasted or outright detrimental.
But yeah, good luck convincing the PvP only crowd..

Re: An option to experience PvE while leveling
This here is already a problem because certain PVE weapons and armor are actually better than the RvR armors especially for "off specs". If you want an "optimal" progression the advice is already to go farm for Bloodlord on multiple classes.BluIzLucky wrote: ↑Mon May 26, 2025 7:31 pm As long as PvE is the worst progression, I don't have an issue. I guess you can use that as an argument that the horse has already left the barn. OTOH if they horses are still in the corral then things are not totally lost.
Folks should actually go do the PVE story lines at some point. The lore is awesome. And I don't think they should be punished (i.e. get XP for them if they don't want it). But renown is a PvP function (or PvD depending on conditions) and should be left that way.

Re: An option to experience PvE while leveling
Agreed, the PVE in this game is so under rated.
Re: An option to experience PvE while leveling
I like this idea, PvP gives both career and renown exp so why not PvE? Maybe they can balance both so PvP gives more renown than career exp and PvE the other way around.
On a similar topic, it'd be nice if careers could have some balancing to make some better at soloing PvE. BW and Sorc for example, solo PvE is painful, which is a shame as of like to do more questing on my BW.

Re: An option to experience PvE while leveling
Thats actually very smart decision and i can see only benefits from doing it. Alot of newcomers indeed just quest or could instead of suffering quest a bit. Combat rank itself will limit possible abuses.
Full support, incredibly cool idea

Re: An option to experience PvE while leveling
Nice idea.
With a RR lvl cap like 40/40, i think it could be fine.
