DPS Numbers

I was wondering what the total base DPS that characters typically have.

Softcap Offense: +210
Weapon: ~80
Ability Base: ???? 120 for tanks, 220 for melee/ranged DPS, 300 for casters?

So that puts it at 400 DPS for tanks/healers and 500 DPS for offense classes. (before crit, etc.)

Am I far off of actual numbers?

I think you're thinking about it the wrong way. There are a myriad of calculations that impact how hard you can be hit and how hard another class hits in general. Auto attack speed, crit %, your % to be crit, your avoidance levels, their strikethrough levels, your toughness vs their str/bali/int, without even mentioning stuff like burst rotations from sorc/BW.

Different abilities receive different multipliers from main stats as well: Heavy Blow gets differing return from Strength when compared to Ravage, for example.

Yes, but from a single ability standpoint it will boil down to a base dps.

I ask because I am trying to figure out a practical percentage for toughness. If a maxed out dps is around 400-500 for an ability, then softcapped toughness provides a 40-50% damage reduction vs the best your opponent can do.

Oh I see. I think generally 700+ toughness is good for tanks. Beyond that, not sure.
