What makes PvP in this game different?

Complete newbie here tempted to give this game a go.
I'm not normally a PvP person but as I understand it is the central focus of this game. I see a lot of people saying that they were initially very put off by PvP in most MMOs, but love it in Warhammer Online.
What would you say it is about the PvP here that makes it a cut above the rest?

Also try to convince me on which faction I should join.

There's a lot more than the PVP to this game. The world is beautiful. Even the story and lore told in the quests is really good, if people bothered to read it. Even the dungeons are really well done.

Faction, I'd just pick a race to your liking and then a role to your liking.

I would just try it. It's free. When you start the game, do minimal questing and just join a zone using the war report, which is one of the mini buttons at the edge of your mini map. Nordland is the best and you'll miss it when you level out of the zone.

in most pvp games/mmorpgs you have a clear meta and try hards with impeccable reaction times. Here the avg age is 35 boomers who still click half their buttons. Imagine playing vanilla wow in 04-05 with the knowledge that is currently out. For the most part it's the blind leading the blind. Ranked is dead so most of the sweats get bored and go home. Mix all these together you get a community who mostly plays for fun, and willing to help anyone who's interested in their game.

On top of that, the gearing system is zero rng, while most mmo's these days use rng to extend game time. This game is based off of crests you get from kills that are used to buy gear. So it's impossible to have gear drama here that normally turn even fun mmorpgs sour.

So in this game you can play how you want, There's a clear finish line. and for the most part very respectful of your time.

Also, there's the collision. It stabilizes the battlefield and makes there actually be frontlines, the possibility of controlling chokepoints and makes flanking a real thing, its a bit more strategic than just having your rotation and counters down.

the easiest answer is : its one of the few open PvP game ... where an additional metric can decide the outcome of the fight.
Most Instanced PvP has the issue that skill/comp and equipment are the only determining factors .. in open world PvP you have NUMBERS :)

While this is often seen as bad (when its completly overwhelming) but on a broader perspective it makes it easier to play casual -- what you lack in skill/equipment can be balanced by numbers.

Collision and tanking mechanics makes having frontlines and flanking a real and critical component of the game. Chokepoints in sieges are central to the game, and there are mechanics around holding and breaking chokepoints that tank classes are absolutely vital for.

Tanks are incredibly useful at controlling the fight and mitigating damage, something that is just not implemented well in other MMOs. Tanks probably have the highest skill ceiling of all archtypes in this game.

Did I mention I like playing tanks?

I disagree with several of the above comments.

The biggest differences between this and something like unranked WoW would be:

-The gear gap in Warhammer is relatively tiny, obviously it still matters, but you're not getting 1-2 shot at max level by another max level character.
-Teamwork matters far more, especially for securing kills.
-Stealth classes are significantly weaker. If you want to PvP as a stealth character go play WoW or SWTOR. WE/WH are great for small scale PvP or 1v1, but are borderline useless in the big blobs of RvR. The closest thing you get to an escape ability is a Mastery target drop + 50% run speed boost.
-Time to kill is generally much slower.

Oh so thats why I've been having such a hard time so far lol. Started out with Witch Elf and yeah it feels like as soon as I leave stealth I just die. Thats kind of a bummer.

Witch Elf and Witch Hunter can work, but I wouldn't recommend either because they can be punished hard and they don't bring much value to the zerg relative to other classes. For example, Choppa leans towards being a glass cannon, but they bring insane AoE and a pull for the melee zerg. 1v1 a Witch Elf/Witch Hunter getting the first strike should beat every other DPS and possibly 2H tanks and maybe certain healers, but you don't get tons of 1v1 opportunities.

As someone who both has 80+ WE, and regularly plays vs WHs, I can guarantee you WH/WE getting the first strike won't beat every other DPS and or 2H tanks. WH at least got the BAL as a decent finisher, WE after the Witchbrew nerf has non- Witchbrew barely scratches the paint on anything with decent toughness. Both classes lack dmg though.
