Just some population graphs

I enjoy observing trends and have often looked at the current population numbers displayed on RoR's homepage. However, I couldn’t find any graphs or visualizations for these numbers over time—perhaps I missed something!

Being curious, I’ve taken the liberty of scraping the webpage every 5 minutes (hopefully none of the RoR devs object to this—if so, just let me know, and I’ll stop) and feeding the data into an old trusty RRD file. From there, I generate a few graphs, also every 5 minutes.

Here’s the result:

Maybe someone else will find this interesting, and it should get more compelling as more data accumulates. I’ve only been scraping for about two days so far.

Man, no wonder order is getting cooked when there's like 2-3 full WB's more on destro side on average.

Are you only grabbing faction numbers or are you also getting class/race numbers? Would be fun to see a graph over archetype/class popularity.

Right now I'm only scraping the data from RoR's own homepage, I'm fiddling with checking the killboard-data. The archetype/class popularity is a cool idea! Thanks!

This is really neat. Also, if this is accurate info, and I'm reading it correctly, then that means Order is almost always outnumbered, which is surprising to me- I always thought more would choose Order. Guess not.

Cool! Would love to see those graphs if you ever make them.

I was thinking you could get the data from the Who is online-list (https://www.returnofreckoning.com/whos_online.php), but the killboard would contain more data to analyze. Clever!

During NA order zerged the server for like 2 years straight.

But a lot of them are the same players they just swap to the side that gets easy keeps/forts because it is rewarded and defending a keep from the zerg has almost zero reward.
