Slayers don't, and have not sucked, ever, in the history of the game. This is reflected by Ranked and Organized City lobbies throughout the entire history of the game. Some people say "It's ranked, it doesn't apply to general balance." which is more or less completely untrue, as once people learn to do with Slayer what people are doing in Ranked & City, they can achieve the same results. Yes, I'm aware that large-scale, especially right now, reflects less accurately to small-scale and competitive game modes.

They do have a few weaknesses to go with their mountainous horde of strengths. Reasons why Slayers feel "weak" right now:
-They require time to ramp (You need to get to red and spread ID's)
-They are incredibly squishy while red.

Preamble aside, here are some Slayer builds that work pretty well!

ID with RoA - Can be played at 60+ and feels very good with +2 so you can get a few extra tools like Fierce Might and Short Temper, which are super strong solo tools.

Here's an example with +2 but you might want Accuracy instead of Fierce Might or whatever you like.

ID Spam Build - You run Short Temper with Accuracy and just put ID on someone every GCD. It's incredible AoE DPS if you have time to ramp and enough enemies stay clumped near each other. If you get a few ID's up, you can Retribution on top of it, pass out heal debuffs, Shatter Limbs and Numbing Strike as needed. The build requires 2 tactics to operate so take your pick out of the rest of the good ones such as stats, AA haste, Stoutness, AP, etc.

RoR.builders - Slayer

2H Slayer - Pretty ridiculous right now because the utility it offers is uniquely strong such as Devastate, the largest Wounds debuff in the game and Spellbreaker, which deals extra damage to also remove Absorbs and buffs from the target. The build is quite squishy but Order is notoriously good at being able to keep squishy things alive so it's less of an issue.

RoR.builders - Slayer

Before 70 just play without Short Temper, you try Breaking Point & Fierce Might for big crits, just use Brute Force, etc; world is your oyster.
