Yea, YGN is pretty bad. I used it a couple of times but only solo. It might help in 1v1 or 1v2, but any more than that and it makes no difference. I don't even have to mention the 'group heal' part. The only way I see it working is if you're stacking HoT jewelry as well. So you need full genesis, and sc weapons with regen. I will try it out one day once I farm out those damn emblems.
For jewels, yes the winds impervious is basically a must. Unless you are running full BL, your resist are pretty low. Merc helps with resists a lot, you will soft cap your elemental resistance quite solidly. In offensive gear mine is at 900 unbuffed I think.
As for no choppin me, I think it's ok-ish in melee group play, but certainly underpowered for 12 points. I was thinking
about a 3-3 group with double bo, chosen and 3 doks (one melee). One bo runs full boss and the other full brawler. It could be a pretty insane combo, with waaagh reducing corp resist for skullthumper procs, and the other bo smashing stuff with THC as usual. And both with morale pump for some insane bomb.
