On live I liked to jump because I liked to jump.
Just like on live, you merely have to move the direction you want to go via your strafe keys (Q and E by default) and you can cast behind you. Jumping has never been required.

Re: Running and Jumping
Ok true, but this is exactly what many people mean when they say "exploit". Others may say it's creative gameplay.StormX2 wrote:it means you keep moving. Your air velocity will not change if you are rooted or stunned while midair jump. You will continue moving until you land.
This is pretty much the same when people exploited the flaws of the petpathing on the mythic server by bunnyhopping, because the pet always stopped while the target was in the air and started chasing again when they landed.
Sure is was not forbidden, but it was an exploit of a flaw in the gamedesign. Not everything that is possible is also intended by the developers.
Re: Running and Jumping
guess I just don't think of it this much as its just how ive played my characters in MMO's since DAOC.
Like one of my favorite things to do is run at the front of the warband, jumping forward but turning around so that it looks like a full speed backwards jump lol its fun.
One thing I feel though, Is no matter how much Im jumping, I still dont feel liek im getting ahead of anyone. Like seriously... this issue people talk about, when I run and jump away from people, it doesnt appear that they have any trouble sticking to me and killing me lol.
About the only thing I refuse to do is screw around at the borders of the RvR Lake maps. I really dislike anyone who purposefully waits in that area to ambush people invisibly while the damn map reloads the assets.
I see people teleport all the time when they try to run away from me. but just like they seem tobe able to keep up with me, I dont ever seem to have a problem keeping up with them.

now I try not to pick on people for quality of typing, punctuation's or spelling (especially with how wide our user base is).Older wrote:WAR is the FUTURE welcome in the 8 finger hands modeor start to play order with kotbses ams etc... and the other easy mode things.... this topic... no sense...
But I am really not sure what you are saying here ^.^
Re: Running and Jumping
Jumping in this game is broken. I have no idea why. Despite you saying it only works going downhill, it works on flat surfaces as well...and uphill. I just had a shammy jump avoid me even with my charge up, while he was running up a slope. i caught up, pop snare, he jumps, he's out of range. repeat until he's so far out I'll never catch him.OneTonGun wrote:Preface: There is an XYZ game mechanic that some people do not comprehend. If you jump off a wall rather than run down the steps, you get to the ground faster. If you jump down a slope instead of running across every mogul and pixel you get down faster. Secondly, if you move across a server line it can make movement appear warpy.
When I kite I run, jump, run run run, jump and so forth. This is a common kiting technique that works for down slope or mogul infested land. Jumping also helps avoid the edges of Sticky Feetz. It does NOT help when going up hill. I was reported and then subsequently harassed in tells by some Nazgul idiots who think that any jumping is an exploit.
So is any form of Jumping now an exploit? Or can a person run, jump, run run run, jump, run run run etc?
Note: I believe the real reason they reported me cuz they got butthurt over and over. Bit of advice, don't rez a guy over and over unless you intend to heal him, you dumbass Shammy. Falsely reporting players may make you feel better, but you ain't gonna get better for it.
The problem is there are legit reasons to jump (avoid obstacles and when stuck) but if you're jumping to gain distance (Most jumpers are doing it to get away), pretty much most people see this as an exploit.
Melee players do this as well. They run in, pop some dots on you then hop away to get out of melee range. It works.
I haven't reported anyone though. It's so common, I just accept it.
Re: Running and Jumping
Flee + Run Away is faster than Charge. Likely It wasn't the jumping, but I wasn't there. That's not even counting if he slotted the Renown speed boost.ounkeo wrote:Jumping in this game is broken. Re: Running and Jumping
Not quite sure if that might help but maybe a cooldown for jumping?
Tied to a counter so that you get slowed/whatever after jumping X times in a certain amount of time?

Re: Running and Jumping
Then the cooldown is not restrictive enough or leading to not desired side effects?Arbich wrote:This is already the case. Reason for all the rageTaller wrote:Not quite sure if that might help but maybe a cooldown for jumping?
