Battlegrounds (read as scenarios) 101

This isn't for people who are experienced with pvp (rvr) content.
It's also not about orvr because that's a totally different kind of content than I am used to and I am still learning it.
It is for instanced pvp, or rvr content, these suggestions apply to this subject in virtually any game.

1.) FIGHT ON THE FLAG...
Or the node, whatever.
Have you known the frustration of Destro having all the nodes, then rushing off to fight at mid, leaving you to watch the nodes turn white again?
Stay out of mid, don't get yourself kited into the crowd and destroyed.
Defend...Objectives.

2.) Peel your healer...
Tanks, you have knock downs and knock backs.
Did you know that if your healer is dead, or running back from the spawn, THEY CAN'T HEAL YOU?
So before you complain about heals, make sure that isn't why they aren't happening.
It's 100% self inflicted.

3.) Order of execution...
Healers<Tanks<DPS
Beating on tanks while the healers are up is playing to the tanks strength.
Their purpose for living, keep you busy while the DPS annihilates you, all the while enjoying unahampered heals, as the guard mechanic does what it's supposed to do.
Killing the DPS, or trying to, while tanks and healers are up is even more comical to behold.
"Why would I kill tanks before DPS? Wouldn't I just want to follow one of your other suggestions and punt the tank away and kill the DPS before I kill the tank?"...Zabis
Thinking outside the box is our friend...

4.) Tanks, you have a knock back...
I know it's common sense and a lot of you are really good about it, but I'll just reinforce...
Knock kill targets back to your DPS, for killing.

Keeping these 4 things in mind, as a habit, will go a long ways toward mitigating the PUG's disadvantage against premades.
In fact, these 4 things are what premades dynamically impose on the battle.
The PUG's ONLY CHOICE, to be successful is to impose this mindset as a habit, on as many people in the faction as possible...
That way the behavior is automatic and doesn't need to be dynamically reinforced.
Bear in mind, failing to remember these suggestions 100% of the time, does not make you, OR YOUR TEAM MATE, an idiot.
It makes you human with bigger things going on in your life than an internet game.
But that said, your team mates are depending on you, so take direction and adjust.
If you see someone forgetting the suggestions, COACH THEM, don't insult them.
You'll end up winning more matches.

Because the tanks can still protect the DPS and spawning healers.
That's why it's so important to protect our healers, AND focus targets.
If you go after the DPS with the tanks still up, you're going to spend time on the ground and in the air, while the healers run back.

Which is why you would punt the tank away, kill the DPS, and laugh at the tank as he runs away.

I would probably suggest something else, it's hard for Pugs to work together as a team, but if you were going to give general advice to help everyone it would be along the lines of this.

Battlefield awareness: Keep your eyes on what is going on around you, pay attention to where you are and where you should be. Tanks need to be very wary of this. LOS blocking can get you killed. As can overextending.

Detaunt + Guard: this ties into battlefield awareness, knowing who to detaunt and when to detaunt will be helpful in winning. Often the healers will be too far away from the battle lines, and not using a detaunt on the right target will get you killed. Honestly the best thing a healer can learn to do is use their detaunt. Guard does not stack with Detaunt. so don't expect the tank to just guard you cause you can't be bothered to detaunt. Tanks should also use challange, this stacks with guard and detaunt and helps mitigate further damage. Doesn't blast it willy nilly, but don't forget to use it.

Assist: It's not the tanks alone that need to use CC. RDPS have plenty of tools to assist each other, using KBs, KDs and other effects to keep the backline alive. Tanks be sure to float guard, and work with your MDPS. Don't put your guard on someone then run off, if you want to win, you need to focus fire and work together. Use the /assist macro or make one. You have 30seconds at the start of the match find a buddy and pair up.

Stick together: Doesn't matter if you are king cheese of dairy island, sticking together is the best battle plan, if half your team is backing off, or running somewhere else, go with them. Goes with awareness...a WH getting some kills off stragglers might be good for him, but he isn't helping the group...and an over extending solo player will rarely make a worthwhile piece trade in this game atm.

Be flexible: don't commit yourself to only one target, be opportunistic, go for whatever you have the best chance of killing, get the healers into a rez cycle, and push this advantage. Even premades have a hard time if you eliminate their carried pugs.

Yeah, general advice for pugs can be tricky. Basically, you'll spend most of your time defining what an idiot is, and then your advice will be "don't be an idiot."

Target prioritization should honestly be fluid; beelining healers is hardly the best strategy for every situation. Any halfway decent healer will know to be positioned in a manner that leaves attackers open to punishment, anyway.

DPS should be paying attention to the health of all nearby targets, and should react to take out any wounded enemies nearby. Sometimes that will be squishy DPS, sometimes that might be a tank whose guard isn't doing him any favors, and other times, it might be a healer. Pushes are best reserved for when the momentum is in your favor because you capitalized on a few easier kills and have the numbers advantage.

I have a question.

Do we do all this before or after we drink the Tequila?
