Hey.
I'm just starting to get back into the game, there's one thing that has always annoyed me, which is how unreadable text gets above the heads of NPCs/Players at a distance.
Anyone know of some addon that replaces the font with one that remains decent at longer distances, or perhaps an addon that scales text above peoples' heads to a constant size, regardless of distance?
(I know there's an alternate font option in the game by default, it's not any good)
Any way to improve the ingame font?

Re: Any way to improve the ingame font?
i think there was something like this in the settings. look a bit a round im sure youll find it.
It changes the font from "stylized" to "normal".
What could also help is enabeling antialiasing on transparent textures via your control panel.
It smoothes the text a lot and makes it better readable^^

The option between stylized and normal is what i referred to in my first post as being aware of it (and that it doesn't really help)
It just so happens I already had both AA and transparent edge smoothing enabled in the control panel too ^^
It doesn't really work wonders though, maybe amd has it working better?
Here's how it looks for me:

Sadly imgur converts it to jpg which adds some artifacts but it's more or less accurate.. I can sorta read the highlighted NPC's name (rotgar), but anything beyond that point is unreadable. Heck, even the squig and herder to the right of rotgar is unreadable because the font's outline is so teeny tiny and scales terribly at a distance..

Re: Any way to improve the ingame font?
are you sure that the game is using the AA? you need some special settings so that warhammer uses it. and no amd and nvidia are just the same - theres not noticable difference.Dancso wrote:The option between stylized and normal is what i referred to in my first post as being aware of it (and that it doesn't really help)

rendering the picture in a higher resolution will make the text look better, but you need a monster pc to do so.

Re: Any way to improve the ingame font?
I was going to say, I had to follow a few specific steps to get AA to actually stick for Warhammer. saupreusse helped me out with that giving me a screen shot of his settings. Luckily German isnt terribly difficult to figure out lol
Re: Any way to improve the ingame font?
The AA itself is fine - even the semitransparent textures like foliage is nice and smooth. (though sadly MFAA doesnt seem to work, which would dissolve the grainy spaz of angled textures while moving, oh well...)
Good idea about supersampling, I have totally missed this option, thanks!
Unfortunately, it only seems to work with full screen mode, If i go windowed, it spills over to my second monitor. Fullscreen traps the mouse cursor inside, which is a big annoyance for me. :\
I've tried 4x supersampling (4k), it's notably better, but not worth the hinderances and the fans going apeshit, besides, it's not going to appear as good as in native 4k.
Here's how it would look on native, what I actually see is a bit blurrier of course:

(double jpg compression because the source screenshot was over the 10 meg limit, welp)
I guess it really would have to be either a font replacement or an addon that resized them dynamically.
Thanks for the input anyway!

Re: Any way to improve the ingame font?
to be honest, i dont think it looks that bad. the fontsizes can be edited in the myp extract. but right now there is no way you could repack them and use them ingame.
Some ppl are working on tools right now that do exactly that. but they might not be open source.
And i do not know if it would work even if you could repack them.
no idea sry.
