Yeah. I'm aware of the inherent weaknesses of mdps in this environment, but I'm not comparing my performance to guys running around in tight 6 man groups. I'm comparing myself to marauders functioning in a similar environment (i.e, PuG scenario).Jaycub wrote:MDPS requires constant guard/heals to function, if you are primarily PUG players you should just save yourself the trouble and reroll RDPS.

Re: Marauder DPS frustrations
Thanks! This is helpful (especially your point about Mutated Aggressor). With regard to mid-rotation stuff, I generally use Corruption and Flail only if other things are on cooldown. Actually, I seem to have better results shifting to Brutality and using Impale and that parry-debuff recently.Toldavf wrote:59 but only 25 of that is spent on offensive stats 10 in str 15 in crit. One other thing i would like to mention at this point is mara is currently under an experimental phase. Our debuffs are very strong and the gm's increased the cool down of one of our main damage skills (Thunderous blows) the change however only reduced our dps not our capacity to debuff.
Looking at your rotation You have a decent one with a few flaws, first mutated aggressor should be popped before you start dpsing don't waste a gcd mid rotation Second corruption and flail are low damage skills try to avoid using them mid rotation although that is something i think you may find difficult.
Though it should be said of corruption that it is a good cover debuff.
Re: Marauder DPS frustrations
When i get into brute i generally treat it as dip in a cold pond in and out fast as you can. Pulverise, guillotine, tb if its up and impales and back int savagery to start again. I'm hoping the change to TB will be reverted soon and any further attempts to adjust it look at the debuff length and not the skill cool down.

Re: Marauder DPS frustrations
scoreboard dmg isn't a really good indicator, a lot of people like to bloat their numbers for instance you can demo spam while you have down time or beat on tanks that you know you will never kill just to get an extra few thousand damage here and there.
Ultimately tho, I think playing MDPS without gaurd/heals a lot is gonna come down to your decision making more than your rotation or gear. You gotta have impeccable movement and positioning, good game sense and knowing what you can and can't get away with in terms of engagements.
You need to have things like double pots, know things like...
>if i go for that healer will i be able to be in range to detaunt say the BW who could eat me alive if i need to exit
What are some easy kills to secure, based on class abilities and really you need a good buffhead setup to see things like gaurd, certain buffs/morales etc...
Being able to for instance immediately see that you have been bellowed can allow you to just disengage instead of wasting time and possibly dying for something that impossible.
How you play the scenario based on what you are up against is huge too, for instance if you only have 1 healer and a bunch of lowbies in say a nordenwatch it might be best just to PvE and only take 1v1 or favorable fights while trying to PvE. And remember to blacklist certain scenarios like maw/mourkain etc... where it's impossible to rack up points without fighting so even if you get dealt an awful hand you can salvage some emblems from decent gameplay.

Re: Marauder DPS frustrations
Thanks. Solid advice. I generally do this kind of stuff (been PuGing long enough to figure out what works and what doesn't), but it's still irritating to discover that the noob sword and board tank who slapped guard on me and than ran off to hammer on an Ironbreaker for 2 minutes still managed to out-DPS me. Anyway, at some point I'd like to join a guild and get serious about organized play, but right now I'm just trying to get down the raw mechanical dimensions of post-40/40 marauder building.Jaycub wrote: You need to have things like double pots, know things like...

Re: Marauder DPS frustrations
Sounds like your next step is to get in a guild as you say. Tank dps is kind meh in scenarios, especially in pug scenarios... they live longer.
Find a good healer / tank / dps to run the pug scenarios dou with. Will bring much more enjoyment.

Re: Marauder DPS frustrations
Spec full critical hit chance on RR, you should be getting 14% melee crit chance at rr45, plus with 5% from gear and 2% from weapons you should have around 21% - and you can get a bit more if you got belt and cape with melee crit chance. Strength is kinda useless if you ask me, if you got around 850 with potion, you'll be fine.
Keep in mind that if you're using Piercing Bite, you must not use skills that do not require mutation, such as toughness debuff & flail. Use only skills that require mutation in order to fully benefit from Piercing Bite. Don't need to use Brute force, in my marauder it make my cutting claw's damage go from 300 non-crit damage to 310 non-crit damage, which is completely **** if compared to the healing leech you're getting in order to help your survival, if you use it properly.

Re: Marauder DPS frustrations
I have played mara in verry early days of war, but I would start rotation like: snare, armor debuff, wounds debuff, 25%inc heal debuff(if you dont have choppa or WB We around), toughnes debuf, than switch to brutality, spam impale or if target is below 50% HP use guilotine. Dont waste time with rend and flail. If you can have guard and heal, dont be scared slot tactics: brute force 160str, FoF 20% extra crit, 50% dmg crit tactic and 50% armor ignore for mutation required skills.
