Actually past last weak situation on order side become better. Pug sc's most of the time have 2(+) tanks. It is for 40 bracket, and personal experience on my knight.

This is not about guard and following mdps. It's about taking a position, obstructing the road and forcing an opponent to attack you.

one thing i hate is when a tank puts a guard on dps in my grp and i hapily put mine on second dps that tank goes off doing his thing probably thinking that guard range is 1k feet range, so im stuck with trying to guard both dps dudes and watching my backlines to see if my healers/rdps are in trouble...it just grinds my gears....i know get a grp and stop whining :)

I dont main a tank anymore. But when I did, I always acted like a rubber band sort of.
Hang out in between your team and the enemy, Youll take focus fire and you wont be so deep every enemy rdps can hit you.
Plus youre close enough for support from healers and to see if they notice to keep you alive.

You have to play defensive as a tank, not just run in YOLO. But try to hang out inbetween both sides, just taking focus fire, before you can ran in and go for the actual backline.

You can only do as much as you can.
If your setup sucks. Good luck.
If the players suck. Good luck.
If the leader sucks. Good luck.

So best adjustment if you insist on pugging is to get in the warband with the good lead. On destro that would be ocara at the moment. No clue who does stuff on order on a regular basis. Good leaders usually close the warband at some point and care for there setup. Nobody needs 12 engies.

If the leader has comms: use them, you don't even have to be vocal.

It's not guard a MDPS. It's guard a dps. BW, SW also need to get close most of the time to drop there morales or use certain skills. So yes, perhaps lean back and stay in guardrange, otherwise your dps gets spiked and your wb is one guy down. That level 40 BW will be of much more use than the generic level 16 slayer which already died 19 times even before you gave him guard.

All the other tips I can give you are not really working in a pug..
In a premade:
Frontline and make yourself a target as much as you can, ppl like to auto target on sight and stick to that target till they have lost, especially pugs.
Fight at choke points
Use highground advantage
Use bridges were it's easy to punt and trim numbers
Intercept pushes and block movement

In a pug there is not much more to than Htl + challenge + your most defensive rotation and pray for green numbers.

Always be aware that your m8s are unreliable, slacking and careless. Dps goes full tunnel vision, healers not moving, dmg is not centered, tanks go balls deep and stretch the group, ppl not playing there class right, half the group is under leveled, under geared and RR starving. At the end of the day a pug is a pug. Don't expect big plays on a regular basis. Just the way it is.
If that's not satisfying:
A) join a guild
B) find like minded people to play with
C) make your own pug and use comms (discord is great for that)

Ive been playing tanky tank for past few weeks (order ofc) and 2 conclusions I have is that people that tank need to grow balls and/or brains (can't tell which would be more important for tank :D)
I too often see brainless solo charging tank
And even more than too often I see tank doing 180 and running for his life even before fight had even started
:D

Pug Mode Tips

1. If shield use hold the line always when moving towards enemy. And keep using it always if you can't use any better skills.
2. Challenge constantly
3. Guard dps, WL should be the last one to guard most of the time in warbands. Slayer&BW without guard can be really useless in warband fights. White Lion can solo much easier and usually is very bad anyway doing AOE damage, more flanker & pull targets with lion to your warband.
4. Stick with your guarded target keep him on defensive target or use addons to help you keep track of him, it's not always DPS job to see where his tank is, it's the tanks job to follow and keep track of dps and hit the same target he is hitting.
5. Keep track of your party on the warband stick with them.

Order most of the time has the problem with tanks that they guard the healers and not the BW/Slayers and then they wonder why always everyone fleeing when only healer&tank alive and no dps to kill any destruction character. I see 95% time destruction tanks guarding and sticking with the dps, then I see order tanks guarding healers and all the BW's & Slayers just melt and then everyone flees from the destruction melee trains.

1. formation
tank line is base of formation.
rest of wb take position behind you.
buy time for them if u have to.
usually standing and glaring is enough.
if not, use challenge and keep irritating enemy so you become the target.
guard tanks and form tank line at this stage.

2. initiative
whoever got more solid front line take initiative. it's rare for order.
charge or wait, it's completely situational. good judgement required.

3. charge & guard
guard the vanguards. find good dps who select right targets. not random closest picker.
if ur guardee escaping hot zone, escort him or change guard. braves dive back into front after recovering. cowards sit back and look for cannon fodder.
you have no choice in some case.
be the cannon fodder. else dps won't charge.

4. defending
when front line had collapsed or disappeared in chaos, backline have 2 choices. kite or run.
completely situational.
you can stay with melees or
retreat in front of backline, help them.
show them they still have cannon fodder.

5. running
don't break formation. you are the front line itself.
when tank turn back from enemy it's bad signal, everybody start running.
use backwalk.

usually tank is last survivor in lost battle.
they witness lost cause. it's tempting to abandon lost battle.
but without you healers are easy prey.
buy time for them. throw urself as bait.
you can save several lives.

6. tanky
for all of above, you need to survive 5sec w/o heal. 10sec and you have my respect.

ps. don't listen melee heavy destro advice :)
