New player asking about state of the server

Greetings everyone :)

After doing some research on finding an active pvp scentric mmo, my research led me to RoR. Since I only tried it very briefly once and got pulled into another game for a certain reason, I am ready to dedicate a LOT of time into this game.

I have read that the server peaks out at 800 people at EU times which is thankfully my timezone, but for someone who has never played this game seriously, and i beg your pardon for asking this question, is that considered much for this game?

Dont get me wrong, this is not a: the server is ded meme post, I am just scared that I put several months into this game and wont be able to find a dedicated and active guild to play with or people to play against :)

I have not settled for a realm, i got classed i am eager to try out on both sides, so I guess while I am at it also ask which faction has the more active playerbase.

I hope you guys can help me out:)
cheers!

A lot of us compare it to Live, which this is a 100x better than live.

To answer your questions, yes Hundreds of players battling in one spot is a big deal to us. It's also trying to your system and the server at times. But there aren't too many games that offer 100+ PVP in one place.

The PVP is split into 2 arenas:

1) Normal Instanced PVP called Scenarios

These are instanced PVP you can Queue up for. They attempt to be balanced and are separated into 3 tiers based off of ranks of players. All 3 tiers generally are constantly taking place in each timezone. I have never had a problem in all 3 tiers for the US TZ.

2) Open World Objective PVP called RvR (Realm v Realm)

There were in live 4 tiers, but now it's 2. Beginner (<16) and then T2 through T4 is all for ranks over 16. This is where most players play.

I get that in a lot of games 800 isn't much. But keep in mind those games have 1000+ on a server, with at max 20 ppl playing in the same spot. We have a big open world that funnels us all to the same place. So 200+ players battling in the same spot is the special sauce of WAR (now ROR).

Each side is played by most players which means the overpopulated side switches every hour it seems. There is no 24 hour dominance of a particular side.

Find a guild that works for you...

if you are looking at dwarfs I recommend bitterstones

if you are looking for mixed race guild then CNTK I would recommend for EU on order side

If you are looking for destro guild I would recommend Iron Pact Alliance (mix of elf/gs/chaos guilds)

you can check how long they have been active on forums... especially bitterstones so you don't have to worry about them going anywhere...

There are other guilds around also if the above are not what suits you...

Population (against all odds) changes all the time... finding a class and guild you enjoy is more important in my opinion and take it from there

Alright thank you!

I am super excited to try out the game now! Maybe you can help me out in my class selection a bit.

I know the classes I am going to mention are gonna get as different as it gets, but I simply cant decide between a Warrior Priest or shadow warrior on order side and a witch elf on destruction side.

I love both playstyles, looked into both of them, so maybe someone can help me out which of them "is in a better spot" if that makes sense, or which of the 2 classes is more needed :)

If you want team based, then Warrior priest is best option in my opinion (wait till your level 20+... early on it has it hard, but wait till higher level trust me once it has its group heal)

If you like to roam then Shadow warrior is a decent choice (if you roam as part of a team then Warrior priest still good choice if healer is needed)

If you like to gank then go Witch elf route

If you do alot of Sc's... Warrior priest has the potential to have the most impact on the sc's...

Tbh I like all pvp forms this game has to offer, even pugging to a certain degree but this being my least favorite of them.

I think I want a class that is very nice in group large scale pvp but also is solid while roaming alone if other people I play with are offline.

In terms of play styles I think it will come down to the witch elf or warrior priest, but yes all help / advice is appreciated:)

Witch elf limits your options severely, just saying. Pretty much anything related to the actual rvr campaign is stuff you can't do unless pugging.

As for playing warrior priest, or any healer for that matter, don't do it with your first toon unless you already got 5 dedicated and skilled players waiting to party up with you. Playing a healer locks you out of soloing, and trying to party up with randoms or joining a pug warband is pretty much saying goodbye to any and all significant progression. You would get stuck at annihilator gear for months on end, as pugs simply don't kill things.

So, for any returning/new player a proper pugstomp class is the best bet. It's easy to grind upwards of 50 medallions a day even solo, contra the 5 or so you would get from an average pu warband session as a healer. So optimally BW/sorc if you got the time to grind proper healing pots and don't mind being a bit weaker when you can't leech a pugwarband, or SW/SH if you wanna be able to play in pretty much any setup.

Kills=everything.

Alright thanks for the detailed reply!

I understand your point out of the healers perspective, but why is a witch elf limiting me? I mean I definitely will join up with a guild sooner or later and I don’t mind pugging either;)

Absolutely epic RvR

Great SC pvp (just don't do pugs, they fail 90% of the time) do premades.

First dungeon implemented.

Friendly staff.

Don't cheat, you won't get in trouble

TL;DR : RoR is an amazing server.
