As I take a good look around the dimly lit lounge, I cannot help but notice an absence. There's a chair that has been unoccupied and unused since the opening of the club. Avocetii is missing. So in his honor is a story from the lakes of battle.
About a year ago, management came up with a new experiment for the labrats to busy themselves with; the dreaded or beloved Aoe Patch of February 2017. I remember it as if it was yesterday, as I'm sure many of you do. Some of the rats in the lab had a difficult time adjusting to the new harsh treatment. They sought the guidance of a particular elder rat who might have been able to steer them through these rough times. After all, he'd spent much time in the lab, and organized many runs in the maze.
But our dear Avocetii was nowhere to be seen. Off on a fishing trip to the mountains, no less. For a full week during NA time, not a warband was sighted on Order side in his absence. The enemy took notice, and built something... monstrous.
With no opposition, Destro Cats were running wild and rampant, seemingly. There was no end to the numbers, it appeared! A whole handfull of warbands were soon set up for them, and looking from a distance, it appeared that Big Brother Destro were getting gits into suits of armor they hardly deserved, and on a massive scale. Seeing this from afar, a few of us got worried. Something had to be done, but what?
And at our greatest hour of need, down from the mountains came none other than our fearless commander, Avocetii. Immediately he was swarmed and embraced by his loved ones and closest trustees. It befell to me to enlighten him on recent developments.
Parlaying with the Human did nothing; the experiment and its consequences, he did not fully understand, but the urgent call to action, he did not misunderstand. Standing there, looking at what we had, it did not look bright. A few brave Fatal souls had stuck around, lurking in shadows and biting their time, waiting for Avo's return; all in all we were looking at a small squad of 10 able bodies. We were now all that stood between 5 full warbands of Destro gearzerg and the Lord in the keep.
Quickly I imprinted upon them the main points of the patch, told them which abilities would swing wide and to use them exclusively. And then we went to War.
The place was dreaded Kadrin Valley. The keep had been under siege for a while, hence my urgency on the matter, and when we arrived at the scene, looking out from bushes at a distance, indeed we saw a waving ocean of Greenskins, Northmen and sinister Elves, their sheer numbers threatening to destabilize the very fabric of existence. Known commanders were spotted at a distance, shouting orders at the newcomers and abusing their subjects to make them fall in line. Clearly something was amiss; this wasn't the usual capable clumping-up of evildoers. It was much bigger, yet seemingly also less managable.
With fear in our hearts and nerves on edge, we began our approach towards the castle, leaving the safety of our hiding to come down the field in front of the keep, where the forces of ruin were now amassing inside the gates, anxiously awaiting the fall of the main keep door, so that they might unleash their fury upon a simple provinsial Lord. When the wooden beams of the door finally breached, fury unleashed poured inside the walls, down the corridors and up the strairways.
But what is this? From the back of their lines comes a scream unlike the regular grunting and roaring. It is a scream of pain, and it was soon followed by many more, as Avo's cutthroat gang and I was now upon their position. Someone had swung a sword and made a fatal blow. The swing went wide and far, and steel buried itself in numerous bodies, all huddled into the confined quarters of the Dwarven keep. More screams of pain, soon followed by deathrattles and juicy squirts of blood, staining the walls and forming puddles on the ground and tiles. Through the blood marched Avo and his companions, ever forward, not looking back for anything; swinging and cutting with a fury so rarely seen around these parts.
The corridors and stairways were full of henchmen in the process of succumbing to a much smaller force, by comparison over 10 times smaller than theirs. The fury and bloodshed egged us on; we wouldn't stop for nothing! When we reached the stairs leading up to the Lord's defensive position, however, we heard the screams of battle upstairs from still many an enemy, and our hearts were overcome with fear for an instant. But only for an instant; for behold, the yard and the hallways are littered with bodies of our slain foes. Surely we could do more. We had come this far..
With renewed fierceness we dashed to the aid of the Keep Lord, his time in this world being counted rapidly. What happened next is all a blur to me, I admit. So much slaughter as I've ever seen. Perpetrated by Avo and his intrepid crew, here was a bloodbath of unseen proportions. Blades kept swinging, sparks would fly left and right. At one point the hornsignal to retreat was blown, but the fury of Fatal knew no boundries. With merciless vigor they pursued their hated enemy to the edge of the keep, where the last marauding norseman was slain. Gazing out over the remaining enemies fleeing into the distance as he was, I saw not terror or fatigue in Avo's eyes, but disbelief. Could this all have really happened so fast? Did we really just save the Lord with 400% aao?
Yes we did.
Where ever he may be, I hope Avo has good fishing. He is missed.

I wonder if it's possible to have a server wide announcement implemented again for when someone joins the exclusive RORRR80 club.
