Question I can't figure out

If a tank has me guarded, and gets half my aggro, how would I be able to pull aggro from a single mob we're both attacking? Is the guard tactic not working as intended, or is their a scenario where I would still have more? Thanks for any input.

Because if you're doing enough DPS to generate more hate than he is making (even with the 35% reduction not half) then you can still take aggro.

My mistake, thought it was half damage and aggro.
