Most of my time in WAR and now in RoR I have been very interested in the way people let their personalities permeate their characters. A a result of that observation I have come to have a deep respect and even admiration for some players on both sides which is based not only on their skill or effectiveness but also in their attitude towards the game and their opponents. My highest respect and admiration goes to players who choose to play classes that put themselves in high risk situations if they want to profit by their abilities (mdps, especially choppas, slayers, WLs), or unselfish and group oriented players who play their tanks and healers with a view to help their party rather than shine individually. At the same time I feel an undisguised contempt for the players who make sure that they will have be killing everything in sight without getting their health below 80% throughout the process (premadish dps selfhealers and ubergeared rdps -some of them even send their pets to do the job without having to get their own hands dirty!-, with constant guard and pocket healer always who never step into the -100ft range and are constantly on the prowl for lowbies and clueless victims). stealth classes and maras are a group apart in between, as they are OP compared to other mdps and are less vulnerable with stealth and self heal, but still have to come into melee range to do their thing.
But it's the comments that really portray people:
Last night I was in a scenario whith like 25 destro against us, 5 or 6 order. You know, the feeling of being in front of a firesquad, packed with our back against the wall of spawn point trying not to die and waiting for the thing to be over.
Someone says :"What's the point?" one destro says "revenge" (that's pretty clearly a child, no matter his actual age) another says :"fun" (thats clearly a sadist or simply someone who likes cracking jokes) then a choppa named Multiluvalongtime or sth like that says: "its not fun, its lame", and I think, I can respect this guy. Thats the attitude, imho. OK we are zerging you, and Im getting renown and all, but Im not decieving myself thinking I have got skill cos Im killing a lot, or I'm having fun when its clearly boring as hell, cos there's NO CHALLENGE. And then, a sorc who is killimg a lot and not even getting her health below 80% all the evening says: "Be heros, come out, order" I say: "When order is zerging I expect you to be a hero and come out then, no?" and the sorc says."Then I log my SW". Hi Deadpoet,
first i want to say sry for my bad english
I'm a active World of Warcraft Player so i can totaly understand what happens to you, (hrhr allybashing camping graveyards).
It happens every day that players kill another player and spitting on them laughing on them and so on, thats just the way it goes in PvP. Dont take it so hard when someone is chasing u, they are just happy that this day they are more than u and so they are strongh enough do camp ur spawnpoint and so on. If a Destro is laughing on u just ignore him, thats the kind of players how dies instant when ist 50% - 50% Destro - Order. Mostly of this kind cant fight without a bunch of pros behind them.
So i realy enjoing see them all die in next battleground or sc or whatever ^^
And thats not about respect, thats about dont realising that a other player is also a human behind his comupter. Skill is laughing of the enemy forces spancamping you keeping on your mind that there will always be a rematch
I was on a battle with 12 against 40 after some leavers, they kicked our asses so bad
and laughing, spitting on the loosers and so on, flaming our mothers.
When this happend i heared "Shoot to thrill" and relaxe them flaming everything even they NPC who is healing us after dead ^^ Holy! we where laughing our asses off in TS.

Re: Respect
Your irony is duly noted. Not weird, unless you wanna call half the population of RoR weird. the title of my post is respect. How can I respect sb who asks ppl to do sth he wont do himself. Bandwagonesqe is morb appropriate maybe.
Re: Respect
i often feel like looking in a mirror of rl-social behaviour.
to offend the ones who are in the weaker position is quite normal, unfortunately.
we all have learned this rule of power, so i dont want to say i am proof of it, we all are just humans...but wait,
we are all humans, so we can decide (sometimes) how we want to act.
our decisions form our character in an irreversible way.
If not me, who? If not now, when?

Re: Respect
The problem is a lack of empathy and a weird weird..fear of dying considering its a game.I normally play my magus the super gimp of tier 2+.
What confuses me as a destro i have played 25-35 order vs 8-10 destro.I dont stop trying to win ill bull charge dotting and lashing everything in sight to alow a SH buddy to sneak by to ninja cap in GOE .Only to get tells dont bother let em win....sorry no i will make them work for it

Re: Respect
and for the you tube link adverse out there its Dylan Thomas gentle into that good night
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rage at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Re: Respect
Groq, I appreciate your empathy. However, my post isn't a complain post, or a rage post. I haven't been spit on nor laughed at. In fact I very seldom see that kind of thing in RoR. I am just an observer, not a victim (you become a victim when you get entangled in that web of disrespect that springs up too easily in any competition. You only have to remember it's a game and the winners can disgrace themselves by not acting honorably, -there are people who just can't handle winning, but that's their problem- so no cause to feel bad about some things, only embarrassment about some people's behaviour). As an amateur sociologist I like to dwell on issues like the relationships between players in a competitive game, and can't fail to observe that the concepts of honor and respect are sadly absent from some individuals. I'm not suggesting that we all adopt the samurai code of conduct or anything, but I always welcome attitudes that try to preserve the dignity of everyone involved among the players. I play both destro and order, and none can claim to have a better player base or better attitudes. I am also happy to see that posts in this thread really elevate the usual level of discussion, and I am grateful to lafrot for a really powerful and concise piece of writing and to bughed for an original entry featuring one of the best poems in the English language.
Re: Respect
And returning to an earlier anecdote, the person telling the farmed players to be brave and step out and then saying in the reverse situation he just would change soides to be on the winning side is an example of our poor current level of badass. There are villains that you behold in awe, and some that, being equally dangerous, are nevertheless laughable. You can terrorise people with your premade, but you have to remember that fear is easy to impose, but respect must be earned. You could have both if you just respected your adversary. Another thing is to learn to respect yourself, but that would imply having to deny yourself the pleasure of killing helpless lowbies and casuals.
