[SM&WL] Torn between SM and WL

Hi there,

I've recently returned to the game and looking to fresh things up by picking up a new class. While I both know each class on a surface level, I would like to hear your opinion on a couple of points.

Firstly, when does each class become useful past lvl 40? I know most need atleast RR60, but my biggest issue with melee dps is that the grind feels rough to RR60, how is this for the White Lion? And, what about SM, can I be a useful tank to RR 60?

Secondly, I know the WL is a very popular class and while I'm slightly favored to play it, I don't want to be yet another WL in over saturated population. What is it like to get into groups for cities/wb/sc late game as a WL. Obviously tanks are always in demand, but what is the demand like for SM compared to KotBS and IB? Are there a lot of SM players?

Lastly do the upcoming changes of the abillity rework impact each class significantly?
