They are referring to LazyPeon times, at one point his followers bolstered server population to the point that the Devs decided to up the player limit to where it stands now - 3500. It didn't last long though. Sure, there's people that just come check a game out and all, but a bigger problem is that this implementation of WAR has a very unforgiving environment for a newb to learn and develop his toon. It was at this time that I and others started suggesting to the Devs that reinstating a mid tier system of some sort to isolate lower level players from BIS RR80s might help to keep newbs interested. Nothing was changed. Not that this is the cause, but within a month regular population dropped from 1500-2400 at peaks back down to around 1000.

I remember a youtube event with some gamer and Max, and others from the Dev team shortly after the surge ended. During it the devs had looked at character creation and development over time. What they found was that a great many had created new toons but a large percentage had given up before hitting level 20. To me the message was clear, the grind of playing this game was just too much to keep the average player's interest.

As a player on this server since T1 was the only zone, there have been many months where average population (on a weekend at least) easily hit 1500. But as mentioned in other posts here, things like the GCD change, lack of balance changes, lack of bug fixes (Mara pull, etc) and now the complete upheaval of what was by way of the ability system implementation really have long time players (are there really any left besides me) wondering about their loyalty to the project.

I found a Q&A. You can see Peak Weekly population at: 8:59

And this Q&A. Overall class creation percentages and population RR level comparison discussion starts at 11:20

If you were to inquire with middle school students during an IT class whether it is advisable to apply a highly experimental and likely flawed patch directly to the live server where hundreds of people are online, or if it would be better to test it on a separate server until it is deemed stable, what do you think their response would be?

the rework pretty much broke the game and the gameplay. dungeons are broken so you cant skip warcrest sets. overworld pve is broken so you if your side gets stomped in pvp you can barely do anything on your own. if this server had any halfway decent competition itd been already forgotten

tonight. And some other people are still in holidays, some wait for class balance, some for PvE. We have a good pop.

i can bear with all the unbalance and the range meta, but the ap change is just so annoying, literally playing with 0-30 ap all the time.

Tier 2 zones should be for 16-39 only, but 16+ should still have the option of going to t3+ like it is now.

That's correct, people overestimate the average player numbers a lot to make a point.

The thing is that allowing 40s to play t2 and t3 maps you allow diversity and more options. Some of lower tier maps are quite good and my 40s will miss them if only pre 40s play there.

Game has always been listed as alpha. Perfectly fine to upload a new patch, especially when it's a handful of people spending their free time to make this game available. Growing pains happen with all games, even the big budget companies release patches that have to be rolled back.

I dont think that this is a big problem. Currently we only use 2 of 15 Zones at a time. We could easily open a third for the lower tier players. It doesnt have to be a fixed rotation and you could depend on the status of the T4-campain which new zones you open. For example:

1. If both active T4-campains are on T2-T3 Maps all zones of the inactive campain are in the Rotation.
2. If one of the active campains progresses after T2-T3 Maps you put those Maps + T4 Maps of the inactive campain in the Rotation.
3. If both active campains are beyond T2-T3 Maps you put those Maps in the Rotation.
So you always have at least 4 Maps in the Rotation which also change.
All Players have all Maps in there Rotation. And when you make it voluntarily for the lower Tier Players if they want to play in T2-3 or T4 everyone shold be happy.
And shoud it really happen that the T4 campain catches up with the T2-3-campain then increase the active Bolster from the T2-3-Bolster to T4 Bolster and split the campains after lock again.

The Problem with this proposal is that it would need extensive changes in the campain code, wich would ony benefit a minority of players. I dont think that the devs have time for that. But it would certainly improve the long-play value and gear progression hurdle for many players.
