How are squig herders right now?

Be honest, do they match up with other ranged dps like BW, Sorc, SW?

Are they lackluster due to pet mechanic? Can they compete in pvp?

Just looking for some opinions based on your experiences.

Squig Herders are good and you can be competitive but they do fall short to the BW/Sorc and even SW. The pet definitely hurts you (not much) since its balanced around it but they don't really add much plus the UI for the pet is buggy. Right now they are really strong I feel but will fall off a bit in T4 due to armor going up and MDPS becoming stronger. They are definitely a really fun class I don't think you would be disappointed.

TL:DR
Yes
No, Yes
Good experience.

From my experience, BW and Sorc are still the dominant ranged DPS. Squig Herders can still compete and be pretty annoying, just not at the level a BW/Sorc could. A lot of it probably has to do with the pets being really buggy right now.

They're really fun though.

Appreciate the info guys!

Up in the air. I just do not want to repeat what happened at launch on retail where I played a SW and it was an uphill battle for a long time after launch. I felt like on that class I had to work really hard to compete with other classes. Not that I am looking for OP, but I do not really want an uphill battle so to speak, and with the pet being buggy I might have to pass on this for now, being that it is a primary mechanic of the SH.

The thing is even if the pet wasn't buggy I think SH is better without it. Slotting the tactic that gives you 25% more damage without the pet imo is the way to go. It's a really fun class in 1v1, group or warband. It will not really be an uphill battle, for that you'd have to pick up a Magus.

With the addition of armor talis sh is no longer the powerhouse class it used to be. If you have a marauder in your group ripping armor for you it's not so bad. But most parties will run high armor healer and tank with a slayer + x.

You'll still take an unguarded clothie to pound town

You're forgetting about armor potions as well now. Yeah... Engy, SH and non-Fester arrow specced SWs are not going to be as good.

It's a painful life as a herder especially as armors raise. Biggest issues right now (to me): AP, pets not attacking your target, pet range to attack opponent "feels" very close to our max range and much less than live, disarm dependent on pet, kd dependent on pet, 65ft range with skirmish line.

SH are the bane of all robe/light armor classes. Little gitlers running around making your life complete hell :(
