Ironbreaker build

Now I am busy leveling up a tank for the Bitterstone Thunderers I would love to hear your opinion on building a proper tank to be used in tankwalls. Looking for that 'unkillable' monster that stands in the way of your warband entering a keep. Wondering about using Toughness, Wounds or Armor talismans? What should be my main and second? Path of Stone based or a mix? Mastery and RR skills?

Looking forward to your suggestions and advice!

We are pondering to bring the events back again now the server holds on again.

But what do you think should prevail with talismans?

Since we are in Tier 3 if you want to zerg bust, this also is great for guard botting, but not really all that great for utility, so respec to this as needed.

you want to stack block and toughness if you are zerg busting, your damage will be insignificant but you will be able to stay alive and guard whoever you need, when you are getting dotted up by a sorc, pop oathstone and laugh off their rotation.

Oathstone is amazing and great for a defensive spec IB, but you don't have access to your AoE snare, in tier 3, as such if you are running SCs or 6 mans, I would switch out to this spec.

Keep the heal debuff on the healers, Aoe Snare the melee train, and keep close to your guarded target, if you see them getting dotted by a sorc pop your bubble on them, you will still want a decent block but here you can start slotting strength, if you are in a 6 man you don't need stupid amounts of toughness. Use abilities like stubborn as stone to increase your AA speed for a bit of extra damage. If this sounds like you need two sets of armour, you do. I would go defensive first and then work on your offensive spec afterwards (especially if you are a lowbee.)

Regardless of how you play your IB, always Challange groups of DPS, most tanks don't even use the skill, and it is one of the best skills that all tanks can enjoy. Like wise save Morale like Distracting bellow for when your side is getting hammered or in a rez cycle (since we don't have access to Immaculate Defense)

When we have access to Tier 4 this is what you should strive for:

GnM is only really good for soloing, or no healer, you are actually more survivable with Oathstone. Oathstone is also really good for popping when you know your guard target is going to take a ton of damage. This RR70 spec is good in both RvR and SCs all you have to do is switch out your gear according to what kind of role you are going to need.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, Grobtar. Very intresting read! I normally only play engineer and I still have to get my head around playing in a defensive way. :D

Tank talisman priorities should be toughness-armor-wounds, for rr you take block (block for renown has only 4 ranks instead of 5, is it a bug? It was the same on live though) and then disrupt/evade. Then reduced crit damage to self... which you won't have rr for and it's not working anyway so only block and d/e.
I don't know much about dwarven morales and tactics... you have an armor tactic right? That and toughness tactic should do.
When standing in a tank wall, use your mass taunt as much as possible and save the second 100% block morale in case things become really tough.
When playing on scenes either guardbot your mdps or try to punt the most dangerous yet squishy target into your group. Usually it's sorc/heal. This can be tricky if the target is moving (which they usually start doing once you aproach them) so you may want to knockdown and slow your target before punting. If your target is a potato and stands still, save your knockdown and use it when an unfortunate sorc lands in the middle of a melee train.
Also it's important to know when to push the enemy lines and look for a puntable target and when to return to your group to play defensively guarding your ally who got under heavy focus, switching the guard if needed be.
Don't forget to mass taunt the large groups of enemies - 30% damage debuff on the most of enemy team is nothing to laugh at.
Being a def tank isn't as easy as some people think it is: throw the guard on a slayer/bw, autofollow him and go drink your tea.

Toughness. Because toughness not only reduces all damage while armor only works against physical attacks, but because toughness affects your chance to block, parry etc.

Maybe a simple calculation helps to see the value of armor and toughness.
Lvl 31

99 armor equals about 2,9 % physical dmg reduction.
19 toughness equals (5,7) dmg reduction on non-crit normal skills. Crits with 50% critdmg tactic (11,4). Crits without 50% critdmg tactic (8,55).
AA non-crit 2s speed (3,8). AA non-crit 4s speed (7,6). And so on...... your choice

As robe/light armor healer and rdps,I would stack toughnes+wounds insted off armor. Many abbilities bypas armor or lower its value by.. a lot. On other hand there are only few classes, who can reduce wounds or toughnes.
