Removing keep lords would lead to better keep sieges. Removing pug scenarios would lead to better quality play. Buffing aoe would lead to organised guilds bombing pugzergs to oblivion which would lead to them adapting or getting farmed. Just as your comment, none of this has anything to do with my concern of adding a difficult to obtain "must have" set for healers.

It's an mmo and character progression is a central part of that. It's easy and fast to get gear that makes you able to compete and it's easier to get end game than it's ever been.
Pretty much always afk or tabbed out.

Now the rr and gear gap is not even significant. With removal of resolute defense, cleansing wind - all you get is passives. Which again is in favor of ppl who want to be equal. Now a 40/40 is able to kill a 40/80 end game player. The gap in gear and rr between those two is like 10-15% crit and 20-30 dmg bonus? Such a difference is too low to allow 40/80 player making mistakes.
Active rr abilities made the gap, allowed being special when you are high rr. You could change the outcome of a fight with them, you could plan some awesome attacks both as a group or solo.
Now it's not like that. If your spec/build is not right for an encounter you will just fail and there is no way you can change this. Your conq gear and extra 5 crit will not allow to beat smth you are not supposed to even if the target is in annihilator (taking into account it plays as good as you). So there is no problem you are referring to. Your proposal to give absorb every X min or CC immunity, will actually make a gap between those who are end game and who are not.
And I would be actually both hands up for a larger gap

Gear is an unfair advantage over people who spend more that 15 min a day in the game and should be removed entirely, so more skilled people would rise to the top. More at 11!

If you want zero progression and full armory go play Rainbow6 Siege. Lvling gives you a massive advantage over those lower lvl. Same with gear. A 40/20 in full ruin won’t be as powerful as a 40/80 in full conq. They can still compete though.
And no one cares if you consider gaming “work”. Putting in 200hrs to get BiS and high RR means they have an advantage over someone that’s barely spent 20hrs on their toon. That is not a bad thing.
And do the math. Outside of Procs, higher gear is only a 4-5% bonus and full anni/merc will take a few days play at most...

I'd argue that BiS gear could be considered a Damocles' sword of sorts, outside of organized groupplay it comes with a stacking debuff upon defeat, the tooltip, if it were visible, reads ' "What a **** game!!11!! Terrible balance!!!1!1 I am BiS geared and that shitty <insert class> still wipes the floor with me!!1! NERF IT ALREADY!!!11!" ', once the stack hits and surpasses a treshold the player submits a whine thread on the forums regarding class/realm balance, whereas before the whine threads of the player concerned gear/RvR mechanics ~Dabbart wrote: And do the math. The cycle of bad:
Start playing -> pug -> cry about gear, by extension RvR mechanics (because surely, the reason you get farmed HAS TO BE gear...) -> continue pugging -> acquire gear -> continue pugging -> cry about class, by extension realm balance (because surely, if you have BiS gear it HAS TO BE the class/realm balance that inhibits you from farming people...)-> continue pugging -> burn yourself out -> reroll -> (...)
