if you are still getting all the problems I had, dont forget to set the war.exe and the ror launcher to run as administrator in the properties windows. That may bypass any firewall issues or other you may be having. Also I am running this on windows 8.1 if that helps.

I have managed to get it working!

I followed xyeppp's suggestions:

Cheers, I'm glad you finally got it working!

Unfortunately, I am unable to get my new PC (Asus ROG laptop) to play ROR using all of these methods. I even tried the vpn to no avail.

I (my boyfriend) really wants me to play ROR with him, but it doesn't seem possible. It works brilliantly on his old crappy PC. I may reluctantly do a reformat tonight before giving up and moving on.

I have tried all of these. I even disabled the firewall completely, set my IP to DMZ, removed all anti virus, used a vpn, set the entire contents of the folder to 'not read only', and ran the launcher (and mini launcher) as admin. I even re downloaded the client via torrent and direct dl.

Six hours of non stop persistence later, I still can not get to the character select screen.

Cheers tho, I really appreciate the help, and I am encouraged since you have your client sorted.

BTW: I'm on windows 10

And are you still getting the data.myp error?
If you cannot uncheck the entire folder, make sure to uncheck WAR.exe, RoRLauncher and data.myp. The no-character screen is a bit tricky, as you may have already seen judging from the forums.
We are not 100% sure on what causes it in specific instances, but our best bets include: read-only, running as administrator, making exceptions on firewall and last but no least, downloading Hotspotshield VPN, selecting the server to London and connecting then.
I have the same issuse, but your infos dont work :(

i uncheck the entire folder, made clear that every of these files are uncheck... but i still have the "no-character" screen...

The launcher doesn't work! The log contains the following:

I was ingame earlier today a few hours ago, but now my launcher can't open the game. It opens the game for a split second and then immidiately shuts down again. It's literally only there for a 10th of a second. I then get this error mesage:
Data.myp:
System.Exception: You need to stop application currently using the following file: data.myp
at MYPHandler.MYPHandler.WriteFileToArchive(FileInArchive archFile, MemoryStream MS)
at MYPHandler.MYPHandler.ReplaceFile(FileInArchive archFile, FileStream newFile)
at RoRLauncher.Client.UpdateWarData()
I've double checked every file doesn't have read-only, AS WELL as the entire WAR folder, that everythign is run as admin, restarted my pc, run the game compatility mode as Win 8, 7 AND Vista (SP 1 & 2), allowed access through my firewall, disabled my anti-virus, disabled my firewall, and read all suggestings in this thread. Nothing worked. Bandaid redownloaded and reinstalled the entire game with no luck. Damn....

Halp!

I'm really sorry for making another post in a row, but I would really like to get some help with this issue. I still can't get in-game. The same thing still happens:
Data.myp:
System.Exception: You need to stop application currently using the following file: data.myp
at MYPHandler.MYPHandler.WriteFileToArchive(FileInArchive archFile, MemoryStream MS)
at MYPHandler.MYPHandler.ReplaceFile(FileInArchive archFile, FileStream newFile)
at RoRLauncher.Client.UpdateWarData()

Could a GM please help me?

I'd love to, but apart from the permissions in properties/read&write protection there's not much I can come up with regarding this error - especially since you aren't new, and you've been playing without a hitch for quite some time now.
I assume you have restarted your PC in the meantime, and there's no old WAR.exe lunging around in your ctrl+alt+del that's disallowing its use.
