Hey guys, haven't played in awhile and have a few questions about SW.
Am wondering what the optimal dps rotation would be let's say for the lord or a player, was trying out AA, BHA, SS, and RF on the lord but wondering if it was a big waste doing so lol.
Does the 'Masterful Aim' tactic also count towards strength in assault stance?
For nerfed buttons, how would go about macro'ing BHA, SS, and GA?
How come some of my keybinding just stop working?
How do I see what renown points I already spent?
[SW] - Few questions

Re: [SW] - Few questions
I think your optimal setup/rotation depends on your level. What level are you? In most instances, you should only ever use stationary skills if you're not in danger/not being focused/don't have to kite/are far enough away from the destro melee train. So, if you're fighting a lord, yeah throw out Acid arrows, dots, etc. I find I don't use Rapid Fire most of the time (if you're stationary for that long you may as well use Eagle Eye) -- but VoN does impact your RF damage so if you have VoN on it might be worth using.Algo wrote:Am wondering what the optimal dps rotation would be let's say for the lord or a player, was trying out AA, BHA, SS, and RF on the lord but wondering if it was a big waste doing so lol.
Again, your rotation would depend on your situation, but normally my rotation is: *always travel in Assault stance* Hunter's Fervor if I think my group or I will need AP > Skirmish Stance > BHA > SS > VoN > SFA > Takedown (conditional) > Eye Shot (conditional -- and remember this reduces Initiative too which means the target has a higher chance to be crit). Other than that, practice "dancing" between your stances -- don't neglect the armor and WS increase you get from Assault; don't neglect the Flame Arrow and Throat Shot (and Fester Arrow if you go that route) from Scout.

I actually don't use NB on my SW since I use VinyUI (which changes your keybindings by default, making them much easier to reach -- I used to have to go all the way to 7 or 8 and it hurt my wrists). I *think* you can set up NB to add a check to see if the target has BHA on them, then you can add SS to the second spell in the rotation if the check clears, but admittedly I haven't done this so don't know the process.Algo wrote:For nerfed buttons, how would go about macro'ing BHA, SS, and GA?
Could you give an example?Algo wrote:How come some of my keybinding just stop working?
This is a bit buggy for me too (not sure if it's consistent across all players) -- normally if I'm at the renown trainer I just respecialize into what I know I want (deft defender, CW, crit chance, etc.) Respecializing costs zero gold for renown training (different than career training which does cost gold).Algo wrote:How do I see what renown points I already spent?

Nerfed buttons, and things like it, are cheats. Best to learn to play without them.Algo wrote:Hey guys, haven't played in awhile and have a few questions about SW.

I'm level 40 already, I'm specced skirmish/scout but thinking of swapping the scout for assault. It just seems rare I get to use FA, and when I do, it doesn't happen to crit or gets blocked, plus I want to stand a little more of a chance when melee get on me.

Same here with the wrist, feels like there's a crap load of keybindings for SW compared to other classes, I'll have to give VinyUI a try. NB confuses me.

Use to happen before but with other keybindings, but now today it happened with my shift buttons. I could fix it by logging out, just weird because it would happen as I'm playing.
Well darn, but I can live with that.dansari wrote:This is a bit buggy for me too (not sure if it's consistent across all players) -- normally if I'm at the renown trainer I just respecialize into what I know I want (deft defender, CW, crit chance, etc.) Respecializing costs zero gold for renown training (different than career training which does cost gold).
Re: [SW] - Few questions
Would be nice, but I'm hurting for non-awkward keybinds that don't strain my wrist. If I had a mouse with more keybinds, it wouldn't be such an issueWhitesands wrote:Nerfed buttons, and things like it, are cheats. NerfedButtons, specifically, is allowed. Don't spread misinformation on the forums.Whitesands wrote:Nerfed buttons, and things like it, are cheats. Best to learn to play without them.Algo wrote:Hey guys, haven't played in awhile and have a few questions about SW.

Re: [SW] - Few questions
Actually for me, I found my SM to have many more keybindings, which is why I use NB on him. Because of the stances, I can fit everything I need on the two squares VinyUI gives you.
You're running into what I think most SWs encounter: why am I specced for FA if I use it very little? I had this realization at one point and switched my Scout for Assault. Then I realized I wasn't hardly using Assault for anything either (normally trying to run in premades and stay away from melee fights). I'm rr60 on my SW so not everyone can do this, but my build now is Skirmish tree up to Powerful Draw (grab Flanking Shot and SS), then Scout tree up to Fell the Weak. Honestly it just takes practice to find what works best for you and how to play the class. It's a fairly intricate class that takes getting used to.
Feel free to pm me in game too.

Re: [SW] - Few questions
I personally would think that macros would be a detriment to a SW. We need to be flexible on our feet and have knee-jerk reactions to able take full advantage of opportunities that arise. Though I don't really believe in set rotations per-say anyway so I might be biased. I think ultimately there really isn't a set rotation because you have to go with how you personally want to play the Sexy Boots combined with what kind of target your looking at with a dash of what's going on around you. I don't think one will have a satisfying experience if they get into a mindset of "rotations" because the class is just so flexible and if you aren't going to take advantage of that flexibility (aka playing set rotations) then frankly I'm willing to bet that another class is going to be a better match to your enjoyment.
I think I got bored of flat FA Scout around RR40, where's the fun in 1-3 shotting people? I really enjoyed Scout/Assault, but live had killed it's viability around patch 1.3.5
(Note: I've not gotten serious about RoR due to RL so I might be dated on these strings as far as changes on the PS go.)
If your playing an FA heavy hitter scout the only hard set string I ever used was FA-VoN-FTW. I played pretty heavy melee assault mostly and I think the only [really loose] rotation I maybe had was; (Prelude Skirmish) BHA-SS-Assault-DB-VoN-BA-OS-CS and go from there, but even that is a bit circumstantial, sometimes I'd get partially though and have to GTFO or get mobbed ect. Although I never did find a "comfortable" play style for skirmish, pretty much used it for SS and LA bombing zergs.

The earlier video's also might have some stuff that isn't really viable now because of patch changes but I experimented with builds a lot to stave off boredom and it gives a feel for the fluidity of action and trip dancing (in the latter half anyway, it was problematic to record trip dancing until I upgraded my rig.) Most of the videos are on YouTube as well, but they've been randomly killing off my music over the past decade so some of them have exceptionally lame music or have none at all. Tis very annoying when a 5 year old video gets muted because it's not like I have the fraps files anymore to put in something else.

Re: [SW] - Few questions
Going to try this out if I don't like my current skirmish/scout build. I never tried assault and just tried out wrist slash tactic, feels like it's the answer I've been looking for lol.

I do have that macro working, but you're right cause I can't cast SS without casting BHA first which isn't ideal, I do have GA on separate keybind though. Just feels like I have buttons all over the place and need one extra normal key for my main abilities.
