because class leads in DAoC were often based on popularity, rather than actual class knowledge. Second of all, mythic often did not listen to the suggestions. And finally, most people, including class leads, had actually no clue about the game. But I sort of agree with Renork, the system is flawed in itself. Say a class leader is an expert at his class, what does that mean? He knows how to play the class but that does not mean that the players has in depth game knowledge. Also, how can he judge a class if he is only an expert playing one class and doesn't even play other classes? If you don't think this through carefully you'll end up with 18 people claiming their class needs buffsRenork wrote:It didn't really work out very well in DAOC tbh. But sure why now :> Tesq for magus team leader, such knowledge, such insight, much wrong.

Re: Class Leaders
Remember when Mythic fired the first WAR Community Manager shortly after she turned over a list of balance suggestions from the community? Suggestions that Mythic later ended up implementing? Good times.Shadowgurke wrote:because class leads in DAoC were often based on popularity, rather than actual class knowledge. Second of all, mythic often did not listen to the suggestions. Anywho, the class leader should be someone who knows the class very well, obviously. They need to be able to take suggestions from the community, figure out which ones make sense and which don't, and figure out which ones they would be willing to give up in negotiations. They need to be able to put the community before their own opinions when faced with overwhelming opposition, and they need to be able to argue logically and eloquently for the changes they present. Finally, they need to understand that their role is as a spokesperson, not an authority.
Re: Class Leaders
Why not just start creating Sub-Class-Forum threads?
I have seen those on another mmo i've played a while.
It works a lot for me at the beginning and the ones out of the community who really care about,
will post here and there and finally the "class-leaders" will automatically been pointed out.
Sure, that there has to be rules for posting, no trolling for example.
And maybe some advices, if the "gerneral discussion" thread will be spammed with class-guides, or questioning.
IMO the real class-leaders could not been voted, they should show there prefernce and stand tall,
so others will look up to them and feel free to ask.
Sure, Tesq is my real pro in case of tanks (esp. chosen) and he also is playing some other class

Otherwise, the Class Leader will very likely become one more argument in the good old e-pen competitions.
This way we can read various opinions on the topic, and form our own, without suggesting only the chosen CL is right.
Plus, one Class Leader seems a little short, since you have different playstyles for the same class that might work/not work depending on various circumstances.
Tl;dr: Pls, no more e-pen stroking + consider more then one person per class.
Thank you.

Re: Class Leaders
The problem i see is that if someone has a very good knowledge of a class he/she has a very good knowledge of other classes aswell. And that is needed for future Balance.
Can a person be class leader for three classes for example?
I would rather make a group of People for that and the devs should decide what People should be in it.
If someone just knows his (one) class for me that would not be enough or ideal for a generell class balance suggestions.
See ya

One trick/realm ponies are our leading experts in balance questions!
Re: Class Leaders
Judging from this thread, I am convinced the idea will work out great.
Pretty much always afk or tabbed out.
