Return of Reckoning: Alpha Server Guidelines

This post clarifies what it means to play on Return of Reckoning, an alpha-stage server for a game that no longer has official support. Whether you’re new here or a long-time player, these expectations will help you engage with the server in a positive, productive way.

⚙️ Development Environment: What to Expect

This is a Development Server
Return of Reckoning is a work-in-progress. We do not have access to the original server code. Our work is based on reverse-engineering packet data and community research. This means:
  • Features are incomplete
  • Bugs are expected

Resolving complex bugs takes time, careful testing, and community support. Your patience is appreciated.

Bugs and Testing
By playing here, you are part of an active testing community. Your feedback—through the Bugtracker—is critical to the project. However:
  • Not all bugs can be fixed immediately
  • The development team sets priorities based on impact, feasibility, and available resources
  • Constructive suggestions are welcome, but decisions are made by the team
Progress is Not Guaranteed
As an alpha server, progress may be reset if necessary. Wipes, rollbacks, or data losses can occur. While we strive to protect player progress, there are no guarantees. We do not restore items or characters lost due to bugs or issues.

🛡️ Development Philosophy

This is Not Age of Reckoning 1:1
Return of Reckoning is inspired by the original game, but it is not a carbon copy. We aim to preserve the core vision of Warhammer: realm versus realm battles, class identities, and campaign structure. We also aim to improve balance, fix legacy issues, and enhance the player experience.

Constructive Feedback is Valued
We welcome feedback that is:
  • Specific
  • Reasoned
  • Supported by examples

Statements like "this is bad" without explanation are not helpful. We encourage thoughtful discussion that helps us make informed decisions.

⚔️ Community Expectations

Testers First, Players Second
The primary purpose of this server is development. Expect occasional instability, restarts, and changes that may impact gameplay. Your understanding and support are appreciated.

Respect is Mutual
The development team is here to support the community, but we ask for respect in return. Disrespectful behavior towards staff or other players will not be tolerated.

No Donations Accepted
Return of Reckoning is a fan project. We do not accept donations, financial support, or assistance of any kind. Warhammer Online is not our intellectual property. We must maintain clear boundaries to protect the project.

Thank You
We appreciate your participation in Return of Reckoning. Together, we are working to bring the Warhammer universe back to life, one battle at a time.
