I think this sort of botting would still occur when the game is brought to a working state. Seeing as when we move up to T2, T3 and T4, new players will not have as much ready access to the (twink) gear that is dropping now. People will most likely farm more with bots for Gale-Runner cloaks, helmets and shoulders, as a lot of players will nobody care to farm this gear themselves.Azarael wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but botting is a product of the current state of the game, right? I'm all for establishing ground rules early to prevent problems later on, as should be obvious from my posts, but if PQs, AH, instances etc were working, surely it would be pointless to bot?
Should I be wrong, I'd happily agree that rules should be created early.

Its a client side operation and the server probably doesn't check or care. It's up to the community to complain and the dev's to take action if things get too out of hand and they could only wipe the people who are abusing it.. not....

Even if the droprate of certain items is low that doesn't give the player the right to avoid these mechanics.Azarael wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but botting is a product of the current state of the game, right?
Equal playfield for everyone, that includes change of drops. AFK Bots avoid that and turn it into their favour.

From a RL developer perspective:
That guy is coding or updating a bot that worked on the official game so that he shall be able to sell it to all those who want to gain and unfair advantage at day zero, when the private server will go "gold".
By letting him continue coding / updating his bot, you are allowing him exactly to be ready for that day and thus, he shall ruin the new server reputation and cause distress and rage in the community.

There is one on Order's side now, too. Not sure if it's the same guy or just a copy cat.Vaerah wrote:From a RL developer perspective:

In the original WAR it was never foreseen, to have every itemslot filled with "best in slot" items in T1 on every character.
What if the auctionhouse goes live?
Is it ok, that a few players (bot-)farm gold 24/7 and buy everything on the AH because the amount of gold dropped seems to be too low?
What if those players decide, that their beloved class is a little underpowered by design (or bugs)?
What if they help themselves and add a "little more" speed to it?
There are enough possibilities to farm+trade some decent equip atm and there are enough buggy skills, that can be easily abused (channeling skills 4tw...).

Re: Bots & Punishment
There were twinks in live WAR just as much as in this version, but you must consider: in the current state of the game, being a twink means absolutely nothing.
Let's put it into perspective a bit: adding 10 str from a ring gives you two, maybe three extra damage on the average attack. The drop rate for a Str ring for the disfavored races on Order side (Dwarf, Elf) from most mobs? 0.01%. Contrast that to the original in which PQs gave you a nice supply of gear with the added bonus that whatever you got was guaranteed to be specific to your career, and I find it hard to see how anyone's farming or botting here is making them a super twink. The fact is that the gear is worthless enough as it is - when you factor in the awful drop rates, the botters are gaining nothing. Nobody's going to waste their time paying whatever prices the botters try to AH gear for when that gear is simply of no use.
Also, to save the Storm-Courser farmers some time: Most mobs don't even drop it, those that do only drop a few select pieces of it and each stat only has a +1 or +2 bonus above Gale-Runner. The dream of full Storm-Courser is a pipe dream.

Re: Bots & Punishment
You are missing the point completly tho. You state having a twink means nothing. The point is that players, even how small it may be at the moment, gain a way to get better items over players who do not bot. You get more drop options on gear then the player who sits at his keyboard farming away.Azarael wrote:There were twinks in live WAR just as much as in this version, but you must consider: in the current state of the game, being a twink means absolutely nothing.

Saying gear is not worth it is not the issue. Its the way they get it.
