Well mostly game company try to take some part of the market.
Sometimes if they have similar project they tend the make open warfare eachother, indeed to the opposite side; single player game get out when they could be the most hot thing on the market in that moment.
Main problem of war was when EA cut the money during development, there were no other rvr project ongoing in 2008-2009, war had no rivals, WOW never had a rvr in the mean of war and daoc, plus hopes on war were truly high like now most of daoc ppl look to camelot unchained project, cos the dev were the same that creat daoc, the first in his gender.
Furthermore warhammer struggle with the problem that EA most wanted a pve game like wow using war ip to get the ppl ppl ( look forward to swtor) while mythic team wanted a rvr game, these lead to several cut to the complexity of the game (from 9 type of resistence to 6 for exemple) and money problem cos half feature where half finished, mostly was bugged, and ppl coming from wow never like the half content and bug that obiusly you hate the most when you get stab in rvr, this lead to like 2 milion quite rage in war, cos most ppl coming from wow, and most ppl never truly do a focus rvr games like war was.
At the end we all tell war is unbalance but is the most balance pvp game i ever played, exept daoc
Cos is the only game, exept daoc to be rvr focus, most game are pve and is not clear how e some pve game are badly balance in pvp but cos most of ppl do pve so at their eye that game is balance ( so cool be blind).
The perfect exemple is ff14 a game that start like war, a lot of expecation, some cool features, a very ranked IP, plus a very high graphic standard.
It gone baldy, too slow gamplay, Square enix had a bad financial year, graphic too heavy for most of pc, and then they lost everthing in the tsunamy that hit japan.
But intead of EA they told to themself this is our **** IP, it's how the ppl see the game in the world and think about "final fantasy", plus it get double meanig after the ff13 series game flop, they spent the double of what they spent to recreate all the game from the begginning , free for all that alredy buy it and at the same old price for all the new player, the result is the most played new p2p mmorpg atm.
I red today that square enix finished his Q1 this year with 2.3 bilion of earning (+57% ).
They had the balls to work on the game, EA didn't. SE get the rewards for the hard work and for the 2-3 years of finacial problem they get , they deserve it , not EA. But at the end EA always win they get the money and shreck another IP then do it again with swtor, war had so much problem that is hard to think to just 1 reason for its fail, maybe becouse all of this show that it was the jarathustra game of our time
