In later stages? Maybe. Orgininally? No - Not at all. The game is about war, sieges, and "the campaign" (If you remember what that was). Did people only play for the last year of the game, or where do people get this crazy idea from? The scale of the game was intended to be one realm versus the other realm, hence why it's called RvR and not PvP. Mythic specifically stated this when the game was in alpha and beta:

Notice how "6-mans" aren't mentioned ONCE. Neither are "scenarios", or "groups". It was always about the grand scale of fighting each other.

Scenarios were just one kind of RvR in the game, as pointed out in this video. Out of the almost 5 min long video, only 1 minute was spend talking about Scenarios, and 6-mans were actually never even mentioned. Only shortly "skirmishes" were mentioned, which would include all kinds of roaming, warbands included.

You can also watch this video, if you are still not convinced. Or how about this one? There are plenty of them.

Using Paul Barnett as evidence for what this game was supposed to be? Lol...

He was one of the designers and managers of the game - And since we are talking about the design of the game, it's quite fitting, no?

Also saying lol is an amazing argument, I must say.

And?

quoting a video made in 2006 is hardly relevant considering how many design iterations this game went through

What ever the original designs or intentions of the game, the clearly didnt work as if it did they would have never changed it

True, and I can say the same thing about the later iterations, which clearly didnt work either - Since the game got shut down. Hence why we all are here now.

to sound like a broken record, i think we need to figure out what the dev's want. A strong ORvR based game or a 6v6/12v12 game? Pick a direction then we can all figure out where we belong, it seems as if we are often trying to ride two horses in different directions.

And a bazillion of the things he mentioned in his videos never made it to the game. Using him to support any argument is kinda dumb.

There's been plenty of people here posting interviews after interviews and videos after videos were MJ and other designeer of the game have basicly said straight up. This isn't a PVP game, this is a RVR game. PVP is a about personal progression. RVR is about the progression of your realm. About huge battles and taking enemy keeps and the end goal is to sack the enemy capital. Does that even sound remotly close to a 6man scenario premade????

I could also point out that the game is called "Warhammer" Online. Anyone ever played Warhammer?
It's a game with a miniature army - Not a 6-man.
Or hell, if that is too nerdy or old fashioned for you, you can also look at Total War: Warhammer. Again: sieges, armies, and huge battles.

Even if you look at the history of Warhammer Online, the game was still about what was described in those videos I linked for the vast majority of the game's lifetime.

But I have to agree with Akalukz - Devs should make a statement on this subject. We are probably never going to agree.

Or we could look at Warhammer Quest and run 4-man groups. What is your point?

One of the rules in the balance discussion forum is that no argument should be made based on engagements smaller than 6v6. If they only wanted to focus on WBs, the rule would be "no arguments based on engagements smaller than 24v24". Also, why do you think Engi/Magus were buffed? They were already decent in large scale RvR combat.

The stance is pretty clear imho.
