Just in case anyone else is going to post this misconception:

Detaunt did not stack with Guard on live.

Patchnote example from 1.3.5:

* Evasive: Fixed an issue in which the detaunt granted by this ability could stack with the ability "Guard".

Yes, as posted several times before here and on the bugtracker: detaunt never stacked on the "live" server; don't know where people always get their info from.

Huh, I could have sworn it did for a 75% reduction. My mind must be playing tricks on me. In that case I'm totally in favour of this change.

How do abilities such as Dragon's Talon, Ya missed Me, Crippling strikes interact with guard/challenge?

And morales such as Wind Woven Shell and Immaculate Defense?

Is everything grouped into catergories like incoming/outgoing? And are there any special cases for instance morales etc...

Standard rules apply.

Tactic damage reductions stack with Morale damage reductions, which stack with standard-type reductions (Guard and ability / proc detaunts).

thanks, and the stacking is multiplicative or is there any cases where it is additive?

Reduction effects are multiplicative.

I remember having a fairly frustrating and humorous time on the live server testing whether Guard and Detaunt stacked. I used two level 10 toons, a WH and SM. The SM was on my subbed account and the WH was on my free-trial account.

I tried to test it first on pve mobs, but as soon as I hit detaunt on the WH, Guard would transfer aggro to the tank and the WH would take no damage while both detaunt and Guard were active. This was the frustrating part of the test. So I had to head into rvr to test it.

To test it in rvr, I put the SM on follow, took control of the WH and headed into the Nordland rvr lake. At this point, a new problem arose. The destro toons wouldn't attack me. They kept running away. Apparently they were smart enough to recognise that a lvl 10 WH being guarded by a lvl 10 tank was probably going to be trouble. The funny thing was that I had no intention of attacking them. I just indended to have my WH stand there while being attacked so I would have the chance to check if Detaunt stacked with Guard.

Eventually, I found a group of 7-8 destro that were willing to attack my WH. The destro got some easy rp's by killing my WH. After my WH died, I took control of my SM and made it safely back to the Order warcamp.

And the result of the test was that Detaunt definitely did not stack with Guard.

I think some of the confusion comes because we talk about "buff groups" a lot - abilities don't stack with item procs because they're in the same buff group. Abilities don't stack with other abilities in the same way.

So to be clear, it's (all tactics) + (ability1 | ability2 | itemProc1 ...) + (all morales)

There's also another point of confusion where a tactic applies a buff/debuff (like Crippling Strikes) - does this still count as a tactic, or is it an ability?

If it counts as a tactic, then it should stack with challenge, for a net 47.5% damage reduction. If it counts as an ability, then Challenge overrides it for a 30% damage reduction.

I hear "Crippling Strikes does not stack with Challenge" a lot, does this mean it's not true?
