Tthings I have tried to fix.
Rextracted the files completely (from the original and redownload from Mega)
I found several links on the forums for Data.myp and downloaded and replaced my data.myp with it.
Restarting the pc (hey it's a classic).
Redownloading via a torrent and going through the whole process.

I have the same problem. Game starts up fine. Then i'm just looking at a background with the settings, credits and cinematic boxes.

No way to create a character. Nothing. Zip. Nada.

Try rebuilding performance counters. If that fails, re-download the game.
