We can't donate money but could we...

It's not a VPS, but a dedicated server (we are alone on it).

Benchmarks are readily avaliable at sites like this one.okraslayer wrote:who is the other provider?
I won't mention what I use (not in public) because I am not here to sponsor anybody, just to tell that there are choices.

Wow, you are really supporting a dedicated server for no cost to the players?DaScoub wrote:It's not a VPS, but a dedicated server (we are alone on it).
I bow to your generosity.

It's not my generosity, but only ads for the app server.
Yaliskah and I own a dedicated server for other projects, and the web part is hosted on it.

Re: We can't donate money but could we...
just a question.
Is it possible to make an addon for this game and let the users decide if they want to buy it? You could make profit which you could use as you like, couldn't you?

So donating money towards the actual server upgrade/improvement is not possible?

It's possible if the donate would be some "other" project but in reality you use it to host the WAR servers.
It's not much different from the money you get from Ads right now.
Tons of people would gladly pay for the servers so we would have better playing experiance.
I wonder much does it cost to host the current servers and how much would the additional servers reduce lag, since its based on multiple factors like DDOS?

As long as we're not receiving donations, I feel justified in not wanting the obligation that comes from accepting "generosity." If Kickstarter has taught the world anything, it's that the sense of entitlement that accompanies a donation is even greater than the entitlement that comes with buying something.
Legal issues aside, as long as someone is giving us money, donation or not, they'll think they're paying us and that we have an obligation to work the hours they want or on the features they want.

I've never given anything to anyone. Yaliskah and I use a dedicated server for other personal projects, and we are hosting RoR website on it.Tiggo wrote:Genisaurus wrote:As long as we're not receiving donations, I feel justified in not wanting the obligation that comes from accepting "generosity." The app/db server is paid by Max thanks to ads. For the moment, the project doesn't cost anything to anyone (except time
