But it's very easy for opponents to flank you all the time, if they know what they're doing. So I don't understand how you can keep the fight in front of you that way, especially against multiple opponents. Keyboard turning is not very fast, and doesn't allow you to be as mobile as you might want to be.Martok wrote:Its how I keep the fight in front of me. Re: War Stories With Karisanna
Ok, I appreciate your response, truly. Based on that a couple of points and questions. Anyone who has watched my videos knows I don't use add-ons. That was a conscious choice on my part, I just don't feel like messing with them. It seems like every few days there are post on the forums about add-on issues, the interface tells me everything I need to know as is, and I do ok so I just play as is. I am also not a computer whiz, my field was English Lit. In addition until Madcatmech posted I had not previously heard the term keyboard turning, it was just how I controlled my toon.Collateral wrote:But it's very easy for opponents to flank you all the time, if they know what they're doing. However, as I always say when I post a video, I do have respect for my fellow players. I fully realize there are people out there who well versed in add-on modification and various forms of key-binding and computer setting etc. etc. Therefore I ask, what would you suggest I do, or add, or whatever, to ween myself off of this habit and become more mobile? I ask in all sincerity.

Soooo basically you are a relic from the old times that did not evolve and is stuck in the old ways
Enemy and Buffhead are two dependable addons which help with guard and applying cc as a tank; must haves.
Keyboard turning makes you slower and more susceptible to damage that bypasses your block/parry. Try mouse turning by holding right mouse button.

Re: War Stories With Karisanna
Well firstly, turning your character has nothing to do with addons really. Addons are a different story and we can talk about that as well. I believe there is a couple of very crucial addons that greatly improve your gameplay, and there is one specific to SM.
I will begin with another question, do you click on abilities with your mouse? If yes, I can understand why you turn with your keyboard. If not, there is no reason to do it. So, in combat, turning with the mouse (right click and drag) will always be faster than the keyboard, always. Don't get me wrong, I use the turn keys in combat, but I don't use them to turn, ever. When you fight, you will be holding down your right mouse button pretty much all the time, that will greatly improve your mobility. Try it out. It takes practice of course to master moving, weaving and dodging, but it is very effective when done correctly. Look at the videos of any good player, and see how easily they get behind their opponents, while the opponents can't do anything except hold S key and just walk back. When you are running around your opponent like that, your chance to hit him in the back greatly improves (together with your chance to crit him afaik, since it's easier to do it in the back, but I might be wrong).
And that's all you need to do really. Hold right mouse button and rotate your camera. It's so much faster than the keyboard. Once you get the hang of it, you will stop using the keyboard to turn, trust me. Now for key bindings. While the SM has a number of abilities that he must use in his rotations, it's not as many as some other certain classes. Nevertheless, binding your abilities to keys you can easily access and remember is absolutely vital if you want to improve your gameplay. So, now that you don't turn with the keys anymore, Q and E are free to use. I put my important abilities here, some that perhaps don't require a plan, like root or group bubble, and sometimes KD. Sure people will say that bo root is the worst (and I agree), but it's still not completely useless. Then you have all the other keys around your left hand. If you look at my vids (before I used planB addon) you will see the keys I used. E.g. R, X, Y (or Z on english keyboard) etc. Of course, you can use ctrl and alt functions, but I always found it a bit clunky and confusing, especially with bo rotations. But if you are used to it definitely use it.
Now I'm using the planB addon. It's a life changer for SM and BO. What it does, is rotate your first action bar as you change plans/stances. So when you come to second plan, the first action bar will show all the abilities you put in the second one, and same for the third. That way you don't even need extra keys, everything remains on one action bar. I still recommend to leave certain abilities out of that, so you can use them without having to switch your action bar.
And that's all I think. Just try turning with the mouse. It takes practice but it's not hard, and you will see how much more agile you will be. And as for key binding, I seriously recommend you to try out planB, it's life changer as I said.

Re: War Stories With Karisanna
For those interested post number forty-eight has been edited to include an additional video captured while fighting with the Bitterstone Thunderers. I found it down on my Youtube list, apparently having forgotten about it at the time. It was a good fight, around the Graveyard Battlefield Objective in Praag followed by a defense of the Keep. During the fight I moved around quite often, but my underlying motivation was to stay alive and record the action as opposed to being a direct participant. At times. The whole Engi On The Rock bit was classic.
I sincerely hope the Bitterstone boys invite me rage into battle with them again some time. I remember that day's activities as exceedingly enjoyable.
Oh, and given I recorded this fight while sequestered at the hotel, I captured someone's conversation in the background. But you can hardly hear it.
Revelation. In honor of the Bitterstone Dwarves I will post the video here as well.

Re: War Stories With Karisanna
Hello again.
As usual a few notes concerning this video.
The last full video I crafted, “All Glory To...”, I thought one of my best. Not only did it contain interesting in-game Warhammer footage I felt the associated material equally appropriate and entertaining. Preparing the material to edit was as much fun as playing through the game sequences. Whatever anyone else may have felt I thought the final product successful and worthy. Consequently, however, trying to determine how to best follow the dominance of the Hypotoad did engender some concern. In context of gaming, that is.
Then it dawned on me. Its frackin' Halloween. I could just craft a tribute to Trick or Treat, and tell you all to kiss my feet. Heh...just kidding. I mean about the kiss my feet thing.
The theme of this video revolves around the sights and sounds associated with All Hallow's Eve. The one design flaw is, of course, the game itself doesn't change just because it is Halloween. But I wanted to maintain my practice of including a unifying thread throughout my videos, so I hope you enjoy. The first three minutes of the video are quite something, I feel, and like moments are woven throughout. In addition a Time Index Listing for all fights is provided below to accommodate those who may wish to view particular portions of the video.
Mild content warning associated with the introductory montage for two words used.
Another matter. All who take the time to look over the Time List Index for all fights will notice this video is dominated by one v. one encounters. To make the issue clear, roaming about looking for someone to beat on represents to me the most enjoyable aspect of playing this game. However I want two points to please be understood. I don't consider myself anything special. I certainly don't believe I am the best SM in the game and I would never make that claim, regardless of how many medallions I may have. What I am is a Swordmaster who plays like a Witch Elf. Only I can't stealth. But the truth is anyone could do what I do, if they wanted to put the time into it, as primarily I am just out having fun.

On a personal note, the actor who portrayed the film character Pinhead in the “Hellraiser” franchise, Doug Bradley, is someone I am acquainted with. We have met and spoken on a number of occasions, and in speaking with him, one would never know he was once in mourning for his humanity.
As always respect to my worthy opponents, and thanks for watching.
