What lead you to that assumption?

DPS AM is very similar to Shadow Priest (Power Word: Shield for when you need it, some bursty DoTs, Mind Flay/Searing Touch) in how they deal their damage. .Think of it like an Auspicious Spirits spec'd SP, with Insanity (searing touch) I actually love Shadow Priest in current WoW =P

DPS AM is actually hard to play effectively if you're a 2nd DPS assisting, but does have qualities that would justify bringing it (you can effectively AP starve any class, an inc heal debuff, can help mask SW/BW DoTs)

Also for spec, I would go for Asuryan at this level: you get an extra DoT that just so happens to be a 50% heal debuff (hardest ticking DOT), and increase the damage on your main damage abilities

Oh of course. MoM is mandatory if you're playing in a kiting 6-man. It's just nice to spec for the aoe pulse DMG as it can crit 400/500+.

Could just go dps IB.

It's pretty fun and can dish out pretty good damage.
You can always go tank from time to time, instead of being stuck as a dps only

Funny how OP asks for a DPS class and people suggest DPS Healers/tanks.

Anyway, for soloing: Shadow Warrior, Witch Hunter, White Lion are solid choices (possibly in that order). For group play you can't go wrong with Slayer or Bright Wizard.

If you plan play solo, make any rdd and any mdd. Play mainly as the rdd but if you find yourself raging about OP mdds, bad healers, etc.. switch instantly to the mdd. The mdd session will help you like visiting a good therapist.

In Wow, i loved shadow priest. DPS AM is similar?
"DPS" AM is not a challenging class, its a self centered spec that brings little to the team
When running in a setup where they actually fit into (3-2-1) they are actually pretty selfless.

The role I play on my DPS AM if our guild gets a 3-2-1 together is basically to have our slayer on def target the entire time, keep him constantly cleansed, hotted, shielded, and as the def target for leeches. Puddle is there for the group when they need it, insta res is there to pull that burden away from our healers. In terms of damage contribution the most important thing is burying an incoming healdebuff on the target out slayer in on then just choosing what to throw on after that in terms of damage if the target is going down fast just using the channel is going to be best etc... Then if one of our healers gets CCed / AWOL I can still group heal especially with M2 its going to only heal for 500ish but it adds up. Running DPS AM also means we can run BW instead of SW as 2nd RPDS in 3-2-1.

Now I know 99% of DPS AM's just solo and probably play like you say, but they can be very useful if played correctly in a group setting that embraces what they can do.

That said they still feel pretty underwhelming atm, hoping they get some core changes that enables the playstyle I described above. If they had 3 more mastery points at RR70 they could actually run a really good spec, but with puddle being mandatory its too hard to get to that good leech ability.

do you use balanced essence instead of radiant lance to get more lifetap?
back on live i used to run some stuff in the vaul path, expanded control makes a huge difference on amount of setback kiteability. dmg on balance essence is a bit less but when u chop down the cast time by 0.5 sec theyre pretty much the same in terms of dps

its just too bad we dont have enough points to get the puddle, the heal debuff and the vaul goodies

not habing storm of cronos aint too bad, since there are so many kotbs around. but no expanded control and no silence makes me sad

when u say that good leech ability, u mean energy of vaul? that aoe lfetap was nice, a bit unreliable but i fully healed near dead tanks with it often, 10k ish lifetaps for a 2sec cast was awesome stuff. only spec'ed it when my healing am friend was around tho, since i knew he'd puddle
AM - Greendreams
SW - Experiment
