We have no intention of hosting a second server. For starters, the financial costs, the man power to maintain both servers as both development and QA, but also as GMs and moderation. This is clearly not feasible for a stature of us.
The most effected cause by doing so would be the population, by splitting, it will hinder more than it would benefit.

Is there a way to donate to help with the financial costs of running a stronger server? I'm sure I'm not the only one that would be willing to support this.
Re: Realm Full
This is asked a lot.
We can't accept any donations (nor do we want to accept donations). Purely because this project is a non-profit project and we have no legal ownership of the property. As long as no financial profit is made on the project it should be fine.

Re: Realm Full
Well, you don't have to make a profit on donations for the game itself, but merely for servers that can technically be used for anything. Set a cap on the donations per month for example, and do not allow any beyond what you need to maintain servers. You don't need to make a profit in that way and could in turn add server space and stability.Elven wrote:This is asked a lot.

We don't own any legal rights on the intellectual property.

This kind of logic is exactly what got Nostalrius shut down. This is a hard line, there is no way around it, and there can be no compromise or crafty laundering.Classix wrote:Well, you don't have to make a profit on donations for the game itself, but merely for servers that can technically be used for anything. Re: Realm Full
They will shut you down if they want to regardless because it is still technically copyright/trademark infringement. The donations for servers are not the reasoning behind this. Nostalrius had 800,000 registered users and gold spammers galore. It received the cease and desist based off of the infringement, not the donations on server stability. If Warhammer so chose to do it here, it would be on that basis.Genisaurus wrote:This kind of logic is exactly what got Nostalrius shut down. Re: Realm Full
They could shut us down anytime, yes. Accepting money in any capacity makes it much more likely. All evidence on either side is only anecdotal, but Nostalrius' C&D came only a month after they started publicly accepting donations, and fessed up to having privately accepted them for some time. Perhaps not a causation, but a very strong correlation.Classix wrote:They will shut you down if they want to regardless because it is still technically copyright/trademark infringement. Fair enough, just trying to offer up the potential to support....I don't disagree with not doing so, just if any company wanted to shut down any private server that violates their Trademark, they have more then enough reasoning to do so.
Regardless, the servers seem to run fairly lag free thus far, I however just discovered this private server, so don't have extensive play time on it....are there plans to up the cap space as it grows, or is the plan to keep things small and simple?

Re: Realm Full
We have no intentions to ever accept donations. I do understand your query on it, as many people have asked over the past coming 2 years since we first went live.
We actively increase the server cap in accordance to the popularity response. We do however have to take into consideration the impact it does have when having so many simultaneous connections at once. The coding isn't as optimised and the client does suffer heavily from FPS limitations. The more players in a confined area, the worse.
