I would say crossrealming is a bad thing, but only if "crossrealming" means people switching to the other side immediately after a major failure of the faction they're in, being wiped a few times for example. The reason is that any success or failure involves everyone participating, and while there are many factors that can make a difference (number of players being an obvious example), how much effort players put to playing smart, cooperation and so on is also one. There just isn't such a great incentive to bother with that if you know that should your side fail because of bad decisions made by several players, possibly including yourself, you can always just switch over to the opposing faction and take advantage of the bad situation for the realm you were in that you might have been partly responsible for.
People can always just leave RvR instead, but the difference is that they can't gain any benefits from bad play. If their side loses, they suffer the consequences for it one way or another, even if it's just not being able to RvR in the lakes for a short while.
Don't misunderstand, I wouldn't want things like being restricted to a single realm or anything of the kind. But I think a short lockout for realm switching, 1 hour for example, would give one more reason for people in the lakes to at least try to work as a team while they're there and so improve the overall quality of the game. Since by then the situation they were part of, for better or worse, has likely changed already.
The problem is with the implementation of any kind of lockout: crossrealming doesn't seem such a big issue that discouraging (but not preventing) people from doing it would warrant the negative consequences of possible methods (brought up so far).

Torquemadra wrote:The main problem and indeed attraction for the lazy zergers to flip flop is the current lack of defense rewards and the mechanics to spread out the zerg. When taking keep locks a zone thats all there is too it, when you had to hold a zone you had to hold it and cover all locations and dedicated defenders could hold off the defeat indefinitely and even turn things around.

The biggest problem for special ops squads at the moment though is the radar bug which makes hiding in plain sight impossible.

But Im hopeful it will all get addressed at some point, the game is moving at breakneck speeds atm.
Torquemadra brings up good points that will help combat against the "flip flopping zerg" but are also just fundamental to original WAR.
1. Defense rewards
2. Defensive siege?(I'm thinking oil here but if oil is in the game we need all siege to make it fair)
3. Radar bug showing enemies on map is reducing guerilla warfare

While I don't personally know what the devs are working on I think these 3 points would make for a more enjoyable RVR experience.

As other have said I to do not think it is as big a problem as some think.

As has been pointed out every hour or two I will take a break, thus my character is not in RVR and the numbers will change because of this. If I come back to the same side or change to the other side more depends on what I feel like playing and what my friends are playing. It has nothing to do with which side is winning/losing just as to what I want to play.

If an application is needed to have multiple accounts then you will see at least 1 less player as I would refuse to do this and I am sure others will to.

Why some people are so high of the fact that the developers need do something to stop people from cross realming is beyond me. None of you who want something done has been able to give any good reason behind your cries!

if xrealiming is banned somehow that wont help cos ppl that go to winning side will just log off instead of the realm hop. So who will win from that? Less players into the lake is something that eveyone suffer from

Everyone should play both sides. It's the perfect time to learn how to play your enemy.

I don't think anyone does this, same thing as people claiming NB bypasses CDs.

I guess we all played it back on Life. We are here mostly because we're nostalgic to it. Personnaly I am started playing since the Closed Beta. I bet majority of players also spent years in that game

For oil you don't need other siege. Since it can be easily killed by RDPS. But oils and rams coming back would change the flow of battle.

Something I think you overlooked is the fact that posterns are still not reliable. It makes it hard to do hit and run attacks on the enemy flanks. If you can't get back inside after.

But even with better siege mechanics, I would say a certain amount of flip flopping / warcamp guarding is just innate to the game.
