Re: how to guard ?
I'll need to get that addon. Make guarding easier to track. Thanks!

He'd have better been wearing a two-handed weapon, or I'll make sure he'll never find his axe/hammer again, and ensure his shield gets used as a clay pigeon for the Bitterstoners!Luth wrote:Comment from some random IB when people complained about him in sc chat cause he was not guarding anyone:

Re: how to guard ?
Those guys were ok. They were a euro guild that came over to play on Badlands in 2012. I never noticed him on the IB but I fought him often when he was playing the BO. He often duoed with a BG when no one else in their guild was on. It's interesting to see their renown ranks because they basically first appeared in tier 4 with what looked like rr90+ toons. I see that was true.
You only need to stay in guard range when your guardee is taking damage that is going to be hard to heal. There is nothing wrong with ranging out when your guardee is being attacked by a tank or two while beng healed by a rr100 WP. In one-sided winning scens, I would often stay out of guard range of my guardee just to give the healers some damage to heal. It can get pretty boring playing a healer when no one is taking damage.
On live, Guard swap did not have a gcd, but it was badly affected by latency. I'm pretty sure that it was subject to round-trip latency. When removing guard, the signal had to go from the client to the server and then the server would send a return signal back to the client before you could re-apply guard.

I can't find an example, where the timing for guardswitch was not gcd, are you sure you don't missremember that, Annaise?

You can see how it worked at the 23-second mark of the vid at the start of this thread. The IB removes Guard from the WH. This triggers the gcd. But he is able to re-apply Guard to the BW just after halfway through the gcd. Watch the Guard icon on his hotbar for the timing.Idrinth wrote:I can't find an example, where the timing for guardswitch was not gcd, are you sure you don't missremember that, Annaise?
I remember this was the case because there was a dispute about it on the Bioware forums during the live game. I tested it at the time and saw that it worked as shown in the video.
Guard triggers a gcd where you can't use other abilities. But Guard itself can be applied (or removed) inside of the gcd that follows any ability. (This is the same thing that applied to using healing potions. That's why you could triple-pot.)
It always took me at least half a gcd to swap Guard, though. I thought this might be a lag issue as I described in my previous post, but maybe there was an internal cd of half a gcd on Guard. I normally had about 300 ms of lag, so I was never able to test the reason for the delay.
