Re: Cheaters
That's true, but sometimes you just need to throw all the prevailing social norms out the window in special circumstances. Like Qui-Gon Jinn once said "There is always a bigger troll".
OK, he didn't quite say that. I just thought best make lemonade when all we have is a lemon.

Ya sy for dev command i mean they work similar to them, btw i dont think mythic never monitored datas coming from cheat program on user pc, they always banned based on report and invisibility watch, and this lead to some worst results.Telen wrote:Cheatings hard to spot without a anti cheat program in the client. Most of these cheats will be just pointerscans altering wherever these variables are stored. They aren't dev commands its just altering the variable where the client stores positioning and speed and the like. They just alter the variable and all the pointers in the client run the new variable. I dont want to name programs but Id guess everyone know the main cheat scanner that most hackers use.Tesq wrote:it would be not a breanch of personal privacy as long it block only war buddy program or disable dev command usable by cheats, what you think?? cheats work that way, they increase speed, teleport, give no damage etc, most things can be done by dev autorization....... you could scan if game let you move on z ass too much that would mean that you are flying etc
Simples things will give simples result with no privacy invasion. You have to monitor war.exe behaviour no all process on pc, nor which porn site ppl are visiting...
Also i only know war buddy as cheat program, have a dedicated anti-war buddy programm incorpored in lanucher would help more and will require less attention, or you can just look directly to suspecious behaviour ( when server will be in good state). As i said , 1-2 ppl that could dedicate to look upon cheater at some hours would do well.
///////////////////////////////////////
I'm not just pro or cos any option; just, as warhammer show in past, report and ban give no 100% chance to ban truly cheater nor to find all ppl that are suppose to cheat, it will be better have so kind of dev direct work on that( no not now)
It would just solve the problem look on those 5-6 cheater we have around directly, with out ip ban, letting them use same ip and get constant attention if re roll and re-cheat again.
They will become bored to get banned and have to reroll 80 levels of renow at some point i hope.
Unless you have monitoring that flag strange activity like the mythic servers had theres no way to detect them. I dont know how hard that would be to implement but even mythics detection had a lot of false positives like when there was all those bans when speed procs were stacking for gobbos.
mmos usually change where variables are stored with each build so the offsets have to be refound but unless you're going to rebuild the client then things like warbuddy will continue to work.
Really it will have to be a combined effort from the players to stop cheating.
I know that the admin would monitor people as invisible flying shaman. They would talk to you if you were doing naughty things and you get an invisible target with the shaman icon. I had one talk to me when I was killing people for the airballoon quest on those columns you could get up onto by jumping up the left side of des warcamp in Lotd and got a warning. From that moment I was always paranoid about exploiting stuff.
Mm not sure about not being able to stop cheat program, it could be hard but it must be a way not so hard as re-write all the server data etc.
Also combat log can help you indentify cheater based on damage, cos cheat program that multiply attack just make 2-4 attack with the same value, (some wh do it on me on official, like 2 auto attack 4 skill) they all get same damage per type 1 fo AA and 1 for skill. The same wh that do it 3 hit for around 3k each in rfont of me......i was like

Server could allert dev based on combat log etc, it must be a way to get the server able to track strange character behaviour, even if it mean, buy warbuddy and then explore source code or something like that.

Re: Cheaters
I think proper monitoring of all player actions would be really intensive server side. I think it would have to be reports and trying to catch those using WB. Problem is there were some good players on des that everyone would accuse. When I fought them I never over 4 years saw anything suspicious. You'd get a report every time someone dies in pvp.Tesq wrote:Ya sy for dev command i mean they work similar to them, btw i dont think mythic never monitored datas coming from cheat program on user pc, they always banned based on report and invisibility watch, and this lead to some worst results.

Only twice did I ever see a definitive cheat. A Russian WE that used to teleport around a lot in t4 can't remember the name now kirelsina or something and a dok in t1 that was flying around. Still battered both their asses though. Theres no cheat that will cleasne dots off.

Re: Cheaters
Lets be honest here. Are people hacking, cheating or exploiting? possibly, but get facts. I've seen things that make me question, but those things could also be bugs in the game. Since I don't go looking for cheap ways to get one over on people and tend to just want to have fun and kill.
It will take the community to help them locate these bad apples. good luck.

Re: Cheaters
I specifically saw a BW in trouble who was on a cliff above our warcamp turn and warp 100 feet forward down the hill with no lag. Could have been lag, but it was really convenient for a time to see it when I didn't see anyone else warp, even in zerg v zerg fighting. Also that 1 dude who rode out of his camp on his horse that couldn't be attacked, and he even /said lel and kept jump around us. That was probably a bug, but who knows. If war couldn't control it, I doubt the pvt server can. At least we have a place to play. Good w/ the bad, amiright?
Word of Pain and Boiling Blood are no longer able to proc anything. The Bright Wizard College has confirmed this is a big deal. (stealth nerf)

Re: Cheaters
Short distance teleportation. The dok in t1 that obviously got banned as he disappeared mid fight after everyone mass reported him was doing this. You could tell he had the hack bound to his jump key. As he would hop and teleport forward about 50ft. Doing this everytime he jumped.Mez wrote:I specifically saw a BW in trouble who was on a cliff above our warcamp turn and warp 100 feet forward down the hill with no lag.
