Veteran players also have hoards of gold and can easily provide their alts with rare gear, full set of talismans, supply of potions, and provide a head start in gearing by sending alts boots/gloves of whatever set your RR allows you to get.
Veteran players also have friends, guilds, premades and know a lot of people to play with. They also usually know how to maximize bolster, how to hunt AAO and can maximize gains during mid-tier and end up with half of a Vanq set when reaching 40rr
None of that would be true for newer or more casual players, unless they are specifically brought in and introduced by veterans.
I had a mistake to rush one of my chars and got stuck with 40/43rr and annihilator set and the character feels so weak and useless i have absolutely no desire to play it anymore.
The point is the power creep is real, the gear gap became much larger than it was when most "veterans" were leveling and gearing as new players themselves. Starting today is much more punishing and the delay before you can actually enjoy the game is longer than it ever was.
This game is about PvP, and PvP by its nature is a competition of skill. But when you have gear disparity it takes away from that and just lets worse players "win" from just having longer playtime.
And thats already on top of the fact that playtime itself comes with experience and better knowledge of the game.
Character progression is undeniably important, but it should make the game better, not worse.
After all there's always horizontal progression approach which we always had in the past.
Not often you hear a voice of reason on these forums. Personally, my favorite point in the game was when Conq was the top set. People in it had an advantage, but it wasn't so tremendously obvious.

For the most part, people die because they make mistakes. When you don't want to get farmed, make less mistakes.
When you get farmed, then sorry not sorry but it's not your gear, it's the way you play.
People remember names, so if you are known for playing with only one hand and eyes closed, you will get extra focus.
Players no matter the rank and gear are dying for multiple reasons but somehow they pick the same excuse all the time.
Record the gameplay and show the situations, where you struggle. Maybe someone can learn from it.

It's quite simple. People claim there is an issue without giving reasons.
Some people get farmed no matter what gear they wear or what rr they have.
Many ppl make new chars and don't struggle, so it can't be solely some gear/rank issue. It's more a matter of experience and playing in a team.
If some new players face obstacles, they should ask for specific help, instead trying to change the game. A game where anyone else is progressing too over and over.
Everyone knows the T1 rants about players who think their char sux or the enemy must be op. But who is actually helping them?
Who explains to them how bolster works?
I can't count the number of times I flew to T1 to check them out in order to give them specific tips for their situation, not just general tips.
I saw a mind-boggling number of heal spec wp, with sc gear or 2h wp, who heal from backline or the classic, players with starter gear at a rather high t1 level.
People should stop blaming gear or rr and find other silly excuses for being inexperienced and admit, that they need help.
A forum is a very bad place to actually help with this, as you can't watch them play. You need to see it in order to tell them, what they do wrong.

the difference between characters in a sovereign and characters poorly equipped or <40 lvl is catastrophic. high-level player can in solo it is easy to kill 2-3 low lvl players, and if he also gets some kind of support in the form of a healer or a tank, then ... only the blind can not notice this, all your attack stats are at least doubled without losing at the same time in defense + it is possible to take two additional abilities, which greatly enhances some classes.

thats what guilds are for, veteran players provide for the guild including providing to its members officer ranked or not, being a new player doesnt mean you have to allow yourself to feel oppressed, join a guild and put yourself out there people will be there for you if you ask for their help. i rush characters all the time and screw up but with a little more time playing with it and a solid 20 - 30 minutes rereading all the abilities the character is better understand.

If you're a tank or melee dps in crap gear you certainly need some group support to carry you vs full sov enemy.
If you're a healer or rdps, you can overcome MOST of the gear gap with clever play.
That means using terrain, cover, positioning, pre-kiting, knowing where the rest of your group is.
Can you go toe to toe against full sov enemy wearing merc?
No.
Can you win SCs with the same gear gap?
Definitely.
It's my own experience, my baby shamy is anni/conq...or recently domi/opp.

If gear doesn't matter, why not make Anni or Conq stats the highest stats in the game and let higher tiers of gear only apply appearances or be variations on stat combos, but no more powerful than Anni or Conq? Shouldn't matter to anyone right b/c high-end gear doesn't give you an advantage anyway...

Personaly I would prefer more horizonal progression over current one we have right now, where all armors get equal stats (not same stats, but "weighted" equally), but unlocking more armors over time allow slightly better mixing or more specialized builds than just more raw power. However, thats topic for different discusion.
