I'm not a fan of periodic resets in most MMORPGs. A large part of the appeal of this type of game is progression. The ability to advance and increase capacity - resets would have to be timed appropriately with the progression speed, and I don't think the window for that here would be palatable to most players. Some have spent literal years fine-tuning and improving on the character they play.

This isn't an ARPG where you can speed run to max in a couple days. I believe I heard that's how the DaoC shard is run, so perhaps that game is more suitable for those who want that type of gameplay in an MMO-type format. Which is a good thing! Different games for different people, competition is good for everyone, even when it comes to old-niche hobbies :D.

I strongly believe introducing that kind of change would inherently make this game into something else entirely. It's not just that it would divide the player base, it would require expansive changes that would fundamentally alter what this game is, and on something that's been around as long as this game, would be SW:G NGE/CU level of risk.

The gentleman above me is absolutely right.

A lot of folks play their characters a few weeks/months and pause again. I do it myself. I love the game and always come back and have a great time knowing that my character is still there and ready to rock. Starting all over every time I want to play again would be a no-go for me and probably a lot of players that play for years.

A reset would most probably result in the death of the server. Imagine the natural reaction of players logging on to find all of their toons have been reset to level one.

I invested X amount of time into leveling these toons, I completed the grind to reach max gear, I played by all the rules set for the server, I made this huge investment over years and my reward is, everything I did has been erased.

Now one could make the philosophical argument that all things pass, but you are suggesting an intentional act with the specific intent of erasing everyone's efforts here.

How many of the players here so affected do you believe would simply shrug their shoulders and start all over again?

The only way to do a 'reset' is how other games have, launch a new version (new engine, etc.) that makes it worth going through the level up experience again. The population gain hopes to be greater than the pop loss.

I have 3 characters BIS at this point (PVP jewel / Annulus etc.) and wouldn't mind a reset if it came with a vastly improved experience and technical fixes (reduced AOE cap, increase in moral dmg cap, gcd to 1.15 again, etc.).
