You can see how bugged, unfinished and unbalanced it was compared to WAR release xd.

I guess Blizzard just released at the right moment cuz people back than only knew Everquest and DaoC wich looked compared to this video way worse.
Well every game on it's start has problems with balances etc... but in reality if you see how WoW is workig in terms of mechanics, it can bring pleasure with both PvE and PVP players, how mechanics cooperating each other... is something that WaR never did...

in Wow you need both PVP and PvE.... and Professions and everything works in a balance that isn't so hard neither easy to get rewarded... sometimes it's a matter of time, some others a matter of skill... and sometime you just need some luck...

in War with Land Of The Dead you were going to get PVP gear by PvE? this is Just LOL... another thing is that when talking about balances is something that is restricting too much the game...the game supposed to be designed for RvR and high scale fights... see Blorc and SM... 20% more heals in RvR seems much greater as a tactic to me in RvR than 10% block... sorry.... 20% more heals is getting 1000+200 heals while 10% block is just chance to block 10 hits/100..... just think about it... SH without an active pet will NEVER deal so much damage as SW (some people say that SH is closer to WL than SW but oh well.... i wish SH had even the half aliments of WL even if a WP or Dok could group Dispell them) .... PQS are probably nice to lvl or whatever but can be horrible if you think of these korean games that you spend a lifetime grinding npc's if you target to get some gear while some classes seem having more advantage in contribution (if this thing ever worked correctly in both PQS and keep bags)

i don't blame the devs and the staff here or whatever... they're doing their best, and i really recognize it... but sorry.... i can't see how this game was EVER completed.... i could be writing examples for the mechanics and how they work and connecting each other for days... but that's not the point... imho this game was really bad designed from start OR it was never completed and the companies started running it on first hand were in rush....

You can't lay the blame on Furor and Tigole. Those guys were brought in for quest lines, story, world building, and some mechanics stuff. You can, however, lay most of the blame on Brad "The Vision" McQaid, Verant (remember the walking wallets comment from one of their clueless execs?), and Jon Smedley. The Everquest development team dug it's own grave when it failed to recognize what the playerbase wanted and instead followed Brad and his never ending quest to antagonize players with "The Vision". Couple that with the less than stellar release of Everquest 2, and the fact that Blizzard had made a much more accessible MMO, and you see the results we have today.

Take a look at what happened with Brad and Vanguard. Clearly the market did not want a pretty version of Everquest after seeing how hard that game crashed and burned.

Even though WAR had problems that were never fixed, it still did a lot of things right, and IMO was one of the most underrated games.

We still enjoy the great PVP system with meaningful melee classes and "Holy trinity"working in PVP, which is pretty rare in games.

I personally hate updates/expansions in games, because they always seem half baked and end up breaking things i like. WAR stayed the same (for the most part) and didn't cater to the masses that much, so that was good for me. But the T4 campaign was always kind of meaningless to me, because somehow it was too much disconnected from real PVP.

I am in alpha testing (NDA = cant say much), but it doesn'T feel like a Daoc clone at all. People only say its Daoc 2, because its Marc Jacobs and it is a 3 factions game. That's about where it stops being Daoc.

All in all, it might be better than WAR and Daoc combined. Or it may totally fail. The crafting/economic/geographic designs are awesome (a lot of it is public on their website). The big question mark is combat. If they pull it off and make it engaging enough, its gonna be the greatest MMO-rpg of the decade, imo. Atm, they seem to be walking a thin line between a super innovative system and a clunky can of over-complicated rubbish.

Time will tell. Beta start soon TM.

Or an even better example, how'd it work for a big name huge hype game like Battlefront? The pve and story is what helped keep war alive as long as it was.

WAR did last 5 years didn't it? I can't speak with any authority on why it was not a big success but I know my feelings on it.

The things I loved were the emphasis on PvP. I loved that you could create a new character and immediately at level 1 queue for a scenario and because you were bolstered up you actually felt like you could contribute. I loved the feel of the pvp with the body blocking. I always hated people being able to run through you in other games. I very much loved the Warhammer lore and flavor. Goblin Shamans, Black Orcs, and Bright Wizards to this day are some of my favorite things in any fantasy setting ever.

What finally got me to leave (I think at about 2 and a half years in) was the horrible balance at end game. For my Black Orc to feel so strong and fun through 3 tiers and then to get one shot in T4 because of gear disparity was nonsense. And the level grind to 40 and the RR grind to 80 (at the time) was too slow to endure that sort of pain. Actually I think I left right around when RR 100 was announced. I was like "F this. It is going to be even worse".

I remember while playing live I remember one of the number one complaints was no third realm and some favorites like Skaven had been left out. I don't know if that would have helped but I think they were probably over ambitious in some areas and that may have contributed to them coming up short in others. I mean what did the game come release with? Something like 12 different scenarios? Some great and some mediocre. Maybe just have 3 great ones to start with and slowly release more content. Maybe release all 6 capitals but only have 2 conquerable to start with.

i do can lay the blame in furor and tigole

Practically everyone that played EQ loved and respected what it was. The biggest s*** talkers were people like Tigole and Furor who lost their meal ticket and "dev in the pocket" Brad when he left Verent and started Sigil. The guy practically designed entire expansions for their guilds strengths. No one outside Veeshan even knew who Furor was until Brad left and was forced to deal with "Smed" and the other devs who for years just wanted to tell the guy to "go f*** himself". That's when the "open letters" started appearing on FoHguild after no longer getting his way and he became a game wide celebrity for his obnoxious attitude and foul mouth. He basically influenced the entire "toxic" scene of modern MMO's and MOBAS through people following him.

furor hybrid hate aswell started the nerf wars in moderm games where forum warriors would moan and bitch to get other people characters nerfed because they feel his own toons where not good enough.

how many tweaks changes had wow over the years for every class?. untill ur character would not look like the same u started playing.

Then there were other guys like Thott who saw WoW as a money train and left EQ to make a database and sell ad space on it. he did just cloned allakhazam. All of them just wanted to take over influence and change the game and industry. All of them were VERY hardcore elitsts. They did all their fair share of anti EQ propaganda leading up to WoWs release.

took wow 2 years to beat eq numbers . ripping off most **** they could aswell from everquest 2.specially the wow pvp system... do you remember when only real pvp u could have in wow was tarren mill? i do . u think alterac etc or arena system was new? no man there was a little thing called battlegrounds in eq 2 .

i could rant for hours how wow and furor and tigole **** all over the industry of rpgs and turned what was a decent community of players(rpgs) into a buch of carebears and forum warriors .

now u can think thisd is a hater wow rant , u would be wrong i played wow i enjoyed it untill the social aspects of the game , the nerfs the lack of originality was so rampant a 5 years old would make a decent player.

all while my real passion wuich were the rpg followed the same path aswell. with wow started ..
