Re: [Magus] Why so weak?
I'll PM you more info p3. I plan to just run the group and try and get it consistent and take on whatever is thrown at us pugs or fotm order comps. Probably the best bet is on the weekends. The more organization/coordination that the group can achieve the stronger the build gets. The build has defensive morale cycles and if left unchecked has the option of morale bombs of 14000 30ft ish which is instant death on rift. We were able to do it a couple times in those dwarf groups.

Re: [Magus] Why so weak?
My focus is trying to show other magus players of a playstyle that is built around their class that works. I said I did this stuff for years. I didn't mean to say I played this game for years. I meant to say I played this defensive style of play for many years. This is not theorycrafting.Tankbeardz wrote: I don't recall anyone actually calling you stupid. You are not the only one who has played this game a long time.
My focus is about the class in itself. I don't care about getting all the DBs, though my ego sometimes says otherwise.
The problem is that the utility is meh and you haven't addressed any of it:
1. The stagger is meh
2. The disarm is meh and is better for burst damage
3. The KD requires a pet cast and is meh without a tactic and 2 GCDs
4. The anti stagger they added in the game was great when stagger was more than 3 seconds but is now meh
5. There is no heal debuff...so I meh again
6. You brought up the SC scores so we responded.
7. No one said that magus isn't good in large scale....but if you want to take it to that...Make your 12 man with a magus focus and put it against 2 well run 12 mans with a melee train who assist, not warbands of randoms and you will notice a huge difference in your success rate.
I ran this 12 man defensive group for I dunno 3 or 4 years something like that. Everyday queing, Everday fighting. We'd fight pugs, We'd fight 6 man's, we'd fight other 12 man's and we'd participate in 18 man's in city pushes against premade warbands and pugs warbands all while using this defensive style of play. Sometimes we won sometimes we lost. The group did particularly good against melee train groups.
Here is a strength that you might be overlooking. Because we literally stack on top of each other in a cluster/formation as close as we can get while using terrain. You'll be able to attack the front of a squishy and that's basically it. You can't isolate around someone like you can in the kiting meta where everyone is spread out. This means only so many can actually single target assist on a single person without being body blocked by their own friendlies trying to assist and our cluster/formation. You might have experienced this feeling in keep defenses/offenses when body blocking was a thang. Take that body blocking feel and make it very controled and not a random button smash. This defensive group LOVES up close fighting like this. Its designed to shine there.

Re: [Magus] Why so weak?
I'm just gonna post this here considering there are so many Magus threads ...
I am a huge fan of Endless Pandemonium during sieges, personally. While the damage is rather fluff, it does eat siege engines rather quickly when you have 2 or 3 Pandemonium ticking and people just ignore it while staying near siege weapons.

Re: [Magus] Why so weak?
rifting people off walls is hilarious. all i do is aoe and rift
can save healers in a pinch too. i stack tough, demonic pact, warped flesh... king turtle of turtle town. WH is initially indifferent to being dragged away from the zealot, cause hey rdps die quick
that indifference fades pretty swiftly
magus is a blast when you remove every DD spell from your hotbar. why bother plinking away at the inevitable army of AMs when you can just drag them towards that mob of orcs? it's funny every time
magus is the cc class and is the most fun i've had in orvr

Re: [Magus] Why so weak?
What kind of burst is a Magus supposed to do in ST spec? Like, White Lions do frontload burst, Sorcs do backload burst, etc.
Second question... What do you consider the best rotation for a ST Magus? I have been trying to play it as a Sorc. As in:
Bolt of Change > Surge of Insanity > Surging Violet Fire > Indigo Fire of Change (Magus)
Doombolt > Gloomburst > Inevitable Doom > Hand of Ruin (Sorc)
Last question. I know the spec I want looks something like this... help me finish it at lvl40 rr40.

(yes, I'm playing a Magus now)

Re: [Magus] Why so weak?
^for ST I use this
http://waronlinebuilder.org/#career=mag ... 4:;0:0:0:0:
Mist is still very good, and instant summon deamons are necessary for the class to not be a terrible clunky mess.
ST damage is honestly fine, only problem is dealing with cleanse. Biggest problem with magus imo is lack of utility, it's a real shame sorc has more group ultility than magus on top of better damage. Magus was built around being a CC bot, then the CC immunity patch came and mythic never rectified the class as a whole to adjust to the new game.
