Yes, dot ticks can be avoided and mitigated, they can also crit.
But they usually can't trigger buffs/debuffs with a procchance.

Tick can't be evaded after you've 'caught' the DoT, as far as I can remember. You may damn well block/disrupt/parry/ignore the initial spell in the first place, but if you haven't - every consecutive tick is all yours to suffer. Again, that is how I remember it.

Agreed with Samster - as I recall, if you don't negate the initial strike of a DoT, you will not negate any of the rest. Logical because you can't dodge, parry or block the residual effects of a strike that already hit you, like incendiary rounds or a wound which causes bleeding. Channels are a different matter - each separate hit of a channel can be negated.

DoTs are affected by resistance with the same rules as any other damage.

DoT ticks can crit, Sorc/BW are testament to it.

Hmm yes, makes more sense.
As far as i can remember, if someone avoided the initial damage of a crowd control ability, he isn't affected by the cc-debuff as well.

I'm not so sure, but I'd be inclined to say that DoTs persist even if the caster dies. I also believe that DoTs from different characters were tracked separately and that they were removed from you when you died. In the live alpha, casting a DoT on a player who already has that DoT overwrites it and DoTs persist through death and resurrection on the field.

I noticed it the other day with my shaman against an engineer. Got the acid grenade thrown on me, went splashing for a while and after i killed him it vanished. Acts liek a dot now right?

Acid Bomb? Still bugged, but it also applies its DoT effect with the PBAoE damage. If you want to meet me on the map somewhere, we can try to work out how it behaves.
